Few Questions regarding the Z
Hello everyone, i am new to the forum and i have a few questions
I am currently driving an e92 335i but the lease ends in december of this year. I thought about keeping the car, but the ridiculous maintenance makes me think otherwise. I'd like to lower the price of my next car, but still be able to enjoy the ride. I know it's kind of early, but I narrowed my options to two cars, and i am stuck between the G coupe and the Z. (I will probably buy the car this time, and plan on keeping it for 3+ years) I personally like the appearance and price of the Z more, but the G can fit up to 4, and the inside looks better imo. anyways, now to questions about the z.. -Is the sports package worth the price? -What is/are the website i can use to buy mods for the car? -How is the maintenance of the z? -Did you ever regret getting the z? -What MPG do you AVERAGE in general? -Would you rather spend more and get the G? -Any inputs on the G? Thanks for reading and i will appreciate any answers/inputs from you guys!! |
-Is the sports package worth the price?
Yes -What is/are the website i can use to buy mods for the car? On this website, main page, scroll down and you will see a vendor section which carry almost any part you will need. -How is the maintenance of the z? Not bad, car is easy to do it yourself & can save some cash if you want, but dealerships are not crazy about pricing. -Did you ever regret getting the z? Nope -What MPG do you AVERAGE overall in general? Cannot answer that one anymore -Would you rather spend more and get the G? No, I am a fan of the pure sport car, but if I needed a back seat for some reason the G would be my car of choice currently. -Any inputs on the G? Great car, very similar to the Z minus the body and size |
thanks for the fast and simple responses!
hmm so based on the things you said, it seems like Z would be more 'sporty' and 'fun' car to drive than the G? i see.. i personally have not driven either cars (saving it for summer), so i am pretty clueless without the first hand experiences |

Dreamer summed it up pretty well. As for the MPG, I've seen around 17-18 with mostly city driving, and have gotten as high as 30 with all highway. Hope that helps

thanks again, appreciate it
now for the fun part, if you guys have some spare time to provide me with further help.. what mods should i add to the car if i do get it? I am not familiar with engine/interior modding of the car, i do not even know what intakes, downpipes, and other things do. (do they help the longevity of the car? etc) lol anyways, It'd be cool if you guys can give me some suggestions with price (perhaps quick details on its functions) so i can save up and start buying mods if i decide to stick with the Z. thanks a lot! |
Unfortunately the Z, being NA, will not produce the big gains with cheap mods (like the JB3) that the 335i will. Downpipes also help the 335i a lot, but you will not see the same gains on the Z
Without spending a lot of money, most people tend to buy intakes, HFC, and CBE. For intakes, most people go with the Stillen Gen 3. As far as the others go, ive seen a lot of people buy the Berk HFC and it seems like there are a lot of different options for the CBE that people like. Hope this helps some. |
Ok, I find the G to be a bit dated looking and not quite as sexy as the Z. Also, there's something to be said for not having to lug a bunch of people around in your sports car!
I average about 22-27mpg in between city and highway (about 50% each). Mods: Stillen CAI ~$560, a good cat-back exhaust Fast Intentions - ~$1200-1300 and some would argue for high-flow cats as well ~$300-400. Lowering springs - Swift is a popular option ~$300, and some 20-25mm spacers to bring those stockers out to the edge of the wheel well ~$300. Then you could go hog wild and get yourself a fat set of Venaci Spirit wheels - ~$4000. So for an extra 8 grand you'll have yourself a sick ride! |

When you buy a Sport Car you don't worry about MPG! ;) |
Dude get a BMW M1 or 135i or 335i dont be stupid and buy a 370z, why? Cuz a turbo charged bemer making 300 hp can make 450 hp in just about $500 yes its true i sad $500. How you ask?? i know tuning the 335 can be faster an m3, but i'm not too crazy over the HP or the speed. It is nice to have faster cars, but speed isn't my priority since i don't track or race. With that said, Z/G seems to be the most practical car since i won't lose out on the drive, or the looks. And most importantly, it is within reasonable price for me! Thanks anyways! |

however, i do not wish to spend the extra 8 grand on the car!! haha i just want a Z that looks nice and won't have problems (mods that could potentially increase the longevity of the car will be a plus!) I clearly have a lot of researching to do during the summer, but i just wanted to get a taste of what kinds of mods i should be looking to purchase/study. Thanks again! |
btw,
i am not a huge fan of the orange reflectors, so where/how can i get rid of them in the headlights? i've seen some Z's with different headlights, but what are they called, and where can i get them? thanks!! |

You can search for mods that folks have done if you're that curious. Probably best for you to actually get the car before asking people how to change aspects of the headlights. It's a pointless question right now. |
