Default A thousand miles in....

I've just put the first thousand miles on my 2011. For what its worth, here are some observations:

1. Yes it's loud. It's a sports car. I don't understand why this seems to be such a hot button topic on this forum. I presume everyone who bought one test drove it first.

2. My mpg average over 1000 miles is about 20.5. That seems pretty good for the type of car it is. No complaints in that department.

3. Getting in and out is a bit of a joke, although I'm getting the hang of it. A grab bar on the pillar would have been a good idea. I feel myself rubbing on the shoulder of the seat when I get in and out. I'm concerned that I'll rub a wear spot. Has this happend to others?

4. I really like the cloth seats. They hold well. I guess that's why you don't see leather seats in many race cars.

5. I find this forum to be helpful and entertaining. Because I'm a cranky old guy, though, I'd block any post that even smacks of street racing. It's illegal and people die. I'm thinking some of the younger posters I've read could use some guidence in that area from the gray beards.

And so it goes.

I'm a younger guy and lift, so I have not had issues getting out of my 'vette or the Z's I test drove, but this was a hot topic on the 'vette forum a while back and it might help with your Z.

When getting out, swing your legs out first, turning in the seat, and then use your palm on the door-sill to push and get up/out.

*I have had cloth and leather. I like leather with inserts best of all. Really though, all leather in cars is is vinyl faced, except for a few Porsches, I believe. Leather just looks nice. Cloth performs better.

When getting out, swing your legs out first, turning in the seat, and then use your palm on the SEAT or knees to push and get up/out.

This is what I've been doing since my left knee started hurting a month ago. Now I'm healed.

The road noise gets worse with tire wear. I agree that it's not as much an issue for me, but just to let you know, you ain't heard nothing yet

My only problem when getting in and out is i notice my shoes will rub up against the door alot and scuff it. Really only a problem though if im parked next to someone and cant open the door all the way.... and really it only bothers me cause i dont like dirtying up my car lol but a cloth will wipe it right off.

The main thing I've observed in this department is I've scuffed up the plastic on the inside bottom of the driver's door pretty bad over time. Just from my shoe rubbing it on the way in or out of the car. Now that I've noticed it I'm trying to be more conscious of doing it

Mostly the forum doesn't tolerate street racing or "kill threads", we're pretty good on that front. Some of the grey area is things like re-posting youtube videos of other cars street racing to laugh or gawk at, but that's a little different than personal experiences.

Wow my knees have been hurting since yesterday. Didn't account it could be from me getting in and out of my car. I've only had mine a couple of weeks. Will definently do the leg swing

I am 33,000 miles in and love my z, most other tires are much quieter. I agree grab handles really should be in this car, especially on the passenger side. My milage averages 22-24, I get an honest 30 at 70 on cruise. I have done all the mods possible for na and more and have enjoyed working on car. overall its very well designed. It rides much smoother than my friends vett's but handles wonderful and instills confidence. I burn no oil, i run synthetic and go 10000 miles and its still full. I have the 7 speed and love it. I run my car as hard as it can be run on a regular basis, My rear tires were bald and my fronts were 1/2 when I changed. I have no rattles and love my seats. I did put on clear bra when paint chipped excessively. So far I have installed intake, headders, hfcs, FI exhaust,reflash,pulleys,2pcs rotors, advan wheels, light weight battery relocate, modded grill and many other small things. have sport ,touring w nav.

I wouldn't go 10K on any oil if you're driving the car hard. I stick to 3K w/ Motul, but that's at least partly because I know I'm not getting a full drain, lots of oil gets left in the cooler/lines on each change.

If I were getting a complete drain every time, I might go 6-7K, but even then I'd probably change early anytime I knew the miles were harder (lots of hard drives in the heat), or if the oil on the dipstick started looking or feeling bad (as the oil ages even if it doesn't change color much, you can "feel" between your fingers the difference between a fresh slippery oil and a worn out one, feels more watery/gritty).

Default maybe this should be a new thread

Guys what are your thoughts, for years I did the 3000 mile oil change, then about when electronic fuel injection hit engines started lasting longer. I own a company with seven trucks and ran 3 chevy pickups 360,000 to 420,000 miles all on 10,000 oil changes and sold them all still running, two not burning oil yet. I had the same luck with ford 150 pickups, and have 3 dodge cummins pickups that I change every 15,000 miles, I have 485,000 miles on the 03 model 305,000 on a 05 model and 240,000 on a 07 model, none burn any oil. All the trucks I own pull trailers 1/2 the time and work hard. I have a 07 accord that recomends oil changes every 8500 miles, and I have my favorite the 370z that recomends every 6000 miles. The oil I am putting in it recomends changing every 15,000 miles and I compromised at 10,000 and at ten it still looks good and is still on full.
Do you guys think we have all been suckered into buying twice the oil we really need to ?? I have read some tests that say used oil still performs way better than is needed to protect the engines, read things that say oil is way better than it used to be etc. My expirience tells me I am taking very good care of my cars and trucks. What do you guys think ????
I do love my z and run it hard, I am a speed freak and have access to an old runway where I eat camerros and mustangs and even some vetts for lunch, these guys don't know how to hook up! I have hit 170 mph and am thinking about supercharging. My best races have been ontracks with nsx's. I do moniter and take very good care of my cars but use them like they should be used.
