The car looks sick. Shame about the swirl marks on your numberplate though.
...and to answer BanningZ - if the rain rinses it, the water just evaporates and usually it looks fine. ...and to comment on the flat v metallic black question, the earlier 350z's had flat black (Kuro) and they look like a much deeper, blacker black than the metallics. However, I still prefer the metallic - I think it doesn't show swirl marks quite so easily, for a start - and I've found the colour quite easy to match. Here's 2 pics of my metallic black car (left) and a non-metallic (right). I think it's quite easy to see the non-metallic is a richer black - even easier to see in real life...

You can get away with so much w/a white car. Black is only clean RIGHT after you wash it. A few days later, it's dirty. White cars even after a hard rain and quick sunshine dry will hide most of the water spots.

White is BY FAR easier to maintain. It's because Pearl White cars usually don't come with the dealer installed option: Swirl Marks/Water Stains.

White is for sure easier to clean than black, but white still takes a lot of work.
White also shows dirt quite quickly and is nothing like say a silver which can look clean for awhile. |

Black is definitely more difficult to maintain. You can, however, wash it in the sun without getting water marks. You just need to be fast, which isnt fun, really. Basically you spray the car down for a while to cool it off. Wash it in chunks, making sure to spray the car down well after EVERY chunk to keep everything cool and wet. Usually, I do the top/windows, then the hood/fenders, then doors/rear quarters, and finally bumpers and lower areas. Always wash top down. Doing this method without enough practice works great, and I never have water spots.

Aftering having owned a brilliant black Audi TT for the past 9 years, I swore I'd never go black again. I had a friend that warned me about black cars. I admit they look the best when they are cleaned and polished but the amount of work that it takes caring for one is just unbelievable. Maybe it's a Florida thing, but I found when the car was even slightly dirty and then it rained lightly and the sun came out and full force that water spots burned into the paint. No amount of wax ( I was religious with the Zaino) protected the finish from this. Also swirl marks and scratches show up the most on a black car. NOW having said that... I understand the appeal! Black looks the most aggressive and has the most shine. If you are the kind of person that meticulously cares for your car, get a black one. It's worth doing at least once in your life.

I just finished washing and waxing my black 370z today myself... Looked damn fine when I was done... for about 30 seconds until a stray blade of grass from a cut lawn landed on it lol.
I must admit, I only have a black z because it was the only one available around here for the next 6 weeks when I got it, and the dealer gave me what was then an incredible deal at invoice. I love black, but the 370Z's black is weak compared to many other car pigments out there. It just gives off a weird shine that makes it appear kind of purple/brownish, depending on the light and if there's moister. This is a minor gripe, and isn't noticable unless other black cars are present, however. It just so happens my roommate's accord is black... lol |
