traditional internet "fact" is that doing any intake or exhaust mods will theoretically increase your fuel efficiency as the engine doesnt have to work as hard to intake air, or exhaust the...exhaust. however, do to the fact that it also increases horsepower, you'll likely be on the gas more often to hear the new musical notes or enjoy the new found power.
also, the fact that these mods cost upwards of 1-2k, even if you continue to drive normally, your initial investment put towards the mod will take years, if ever to recover in gas savings. |

The single biggest impact you can have on your MPG is buying tires with lower rolling resistance. That's code for less grippy, less performance tires. Since switching to RE-11s (high rolling resistance), my fuel economy blows even with pretty modest driving style (~17 city/21 highway). But that's the name of the game with a performance car.

Ummmm it was just a simple question as I saw people saying that their intake and exhaust helped with it while adding power. All I wanted to see is what upgrades give you both but thanks for the help guys that was very helpful.

After I installed my varis lip I noticed my 10 mile commute's mpg went from 21 to about 23. I fill up and reset the mpg computer every time. When I drive on the highway I can get 30 mpg +, I got 33 driving 30 miles. I found it interesting the lip reduced drag. A lip isn't a way to save gas.

Not an upgrade but keeping the air filters clean and the tire pressure correct makes a big change. Also driving style as spearfish mentioned has a huge effect. If you keep the multifunction gage on instant mpg and modify how you're driving to get the best rate of fuel burn your mpg goes up more then you might think. I had an XB before and would many times get highway or better mpg during around town driving. The added benefit is you usually are carrying less energy in case of an accident. Good question
