True. If you make a request, officers are supposed to file a report. They often don't if they don't think it is worth their time. You should always insist on a police report being filed when you are involved in an accident. Without a police report, insurance companies are more likely to deny a claim.

Yeah I'm think it's what people do just out of habit. I mess with people when they have their brain set in auto-mode like that and I want some space. I pull up an inch and if they do the same I pull up another inch. I keep doing that until they get sick of doing it.

I hope you stop before you hit the guy in front of you.

I just throw it into reverse when they see those lights they klick out of autopilot and usually give me some space. Just remember to put it back into drive before to hit the gas.

this day and age start recording video as soon as you walk out of the car to record the damage, record the guy who hit you while you hold up your phone so he knows he's being recorded. also record his plate info, insurance info.

if he doesnt want to talk while being recorded just shut it off noting that he doesnt want to talk over the video.

if he's at fault he will admit hitting your car just from being in shock. unless someone was hurt or a pretty major accident i dont call the police and just report to my insurance guy to take care of the rest. been bumped so many times off and on in my dd it's like a frikken routine. another reason why i have a beater in the first place.

Even without a formal report being filed, officers will have a contact report filed just for being on scene, so if the insurance company does try to b.s. you, there is proof that an officer responded. The contact report is not official, they file them in case there is a crime within a certain time frame involving either one of you, it gives them a starting point if that should occur.

Great point. Just make sure that you make it clear on the video that he is aware you are recording both video and audio. Some states vary, but it's almost invariably a crime to record someone in either way without their knowledge. If they decline to be recorded, make sure you get them declining to be recorded, although it's not an admission of guilt it makes them look a lot worse should you ever need the tape as backup

Hey sorry to hear about your accident. As long as you have the insurance information, the cops contact info, you should be fine. I was in an accident and the town wouldnt even send out a cop because i was hit in a parking lot. Call your insurance company, calls his insurance company for a rental car ( you will prolly need a new bumper, if not ur current bumper will need to be fixed and painted over) for a few days. I wouldnt worry to much since a cop was there and you have all his insurance info......Make sure to call the kid to and let him know that you have contacted his insurance company and that he needs to speak with them. Sometimes ( in my case ) the people never end up calling their insurance company back to notify them that they were in an accident and it was their fault. If their client doesnt accept responsibility or give their story than their insurance company cannot move forward.

On another note, I love how people always say "Oh it wasnt that bad". I got hit and the people stated that it wasnt that bad and they would be willing to pay out of their pocket. I immediately corrected them as they did not realize that paint, parts, labor ( even on a minor accident ) can be thousands of dollars. Here is my pic/accident which was circulated around the web thanks to this site. These people thought it would be only a few hundred bucks to fix my car, hahaaha total bill was $7200.........be persistent and on top of everything and you will be fine!!!

Less short term satisfaction, more long term satisfaction. Knowing he is getting some awkward "knowing" glances from some guys on the road

Mines a magnet too... For dirt/dust. I've never seen the rear of a car get so dusty so fast. Maybe it's because I drive a yellow that I notice it more so.

Anyway, not to get off topic. I hope I don't attract someone's front bumper to my rear anytime soon!
