Just thought I would add I drove glendora mountain road again (took a vid this time) and even though I was reving it more than before the oil temps never got above 235 F with the oil cooler (they maxed out at that a couple minutes into it and stayed at about that level).
Considering my normal oil temp is around 170-180 ish I was honestly surprised it went that high as I wasn't expecting it to go over 230. |

The oil temp gauge I think has clouded a few peoples judgment. More then likely whatever car they owned in the past did not have a gauge so they have no idea what there temps were. I have heard many people complaining about temps in the 230-250 range, thats not really that abnormal. The hottest my temps got was 260, happen to me twice when I was really ringing her out, so I dont feel that my Z had the oil temp issue. Yea I added an oil cooler because I plan on tracking the car and going FI some day, those where the biggest reasons.

Some people don't know how to drive the Z. Perfect example of this is people that goes to the Tail of the Dragon and keep the car on 2nd and 3rd all the time, of course your oil temp is going to go up pass the 230º and go into limp mode.
I have ran the Tail of the Dragon HARD twice (2010,2011) and some of the Smokey Mountain roads and had no issues without an oil cooler.

Sounds like your Z runs about as hot as mine did. |

My 2004 M3 never sees oil temps above 210, and that's in 100+ degree days with over 70% humidity (good ol Missouri) and driving up into hills. I don't understand why the 370Z has issues, seems like an engineering fault to me.
The oil temp in my 2011 Z was 215 just cruising at 75mph the other day when it was only 85deg outside. As soon as you get on the gas, you can literially see the needle move up. Other performance cars just seem to not need oil coolers at all when driving the snot out of them. Kinda pisses me off that we have to shell out major coin just to keep oil temps down. |

Yes its at my expense and frankly should have been corrected by Nissan. But I wanted the car and knew going in the issue could arise(oil temp). With high speed driving here actually legal, and one can visit many tracks etc, plus Nurburgring, why chance it. Reading online its pretty easy to find US magazines saying the issue would be a deal breaker(Road and Track) and very poor choice by Nissan to put it on the consumer(once again Road and Track). SO the word is out in the press and its a negative point on a very very good car. Frankly the automakers have done worse things and its just an oil cooler. Take or leave it, and among all the cars out there none are perfect and no one should think they are or are all issue free. I also have a 2009 Abarth 500 and its turbocharged and has an oil cooler!! Even cheap ole Fiat has the guts to put in an oil cooler in a performance car. I should say smarts! |

I understand your point about all cars not being perfect, but it can deteriorate engine life which I would think Nissan would be strongly against since they're all about quality and extensive testing as seen advertised in their commercials. I realize it's not really an issue as long as you baby the car but who buys a Z to drive it like a Camry every day? Not me, hehe. A recall would be nice to maybe install a cheapo cooler but I'd be dreaming.
I suppose I should've researched the car a bit more to find out about the oil temp issue. My fault. But I didn't want any other car damnit! lol Last edited by gmr19; 09-05-2011 at 11:49 PM. |

It is NOT voided by installing an oil cooler.

I will have to search but I beleive this what Nissan says either about the oil cooler or something related to that. It was in a thread were they gave the Part Number for the oil cooler and at the end BOOM!....the statement about the warranty.
But I might be wrong....
