I went shopping in '06 and looked at the 350. From the driver's perspective there was almost no rear view at all. Also the cockpit wasn't very um...special.

As mentioned, the 370 is lighter, more powerful, faster, shorter, and wider. The interior is way better, the sat nav is improved, better sound, etc.

Being asked the question isn't unfair or dumb. Nissan has managed to screw up Z's over the years too. The 240Z was amazing. The 280 wasn't bad, but not particularly better. Then until the 350 Nissan totally dropped the ball. I am very grateful that the evolution is now going the right way. The 350 restored the Z to its rightful place as a reasonably priced true sports car (as opposed to the Mitsubishi Eclipse, which looks cool but isn't a true sports car). The 370 is truly evolutionary. It isn't a completely new car from the 350. It is an amazing refinement.

Well if 26 hp, about 100 lbs. and about a .2 0-60 is quite a lot for for you in a whole new model, then ok!

Curious what your gripes are with the 300ZX, I feel like its a favorite of many Z enthusiasts.

I haven't seen that anyone has noted it, but the 370 and the '07-'09 (vert) 350s have basically the same engine. The 350 of course is 3.5, but they both are HR motors.

As a footnote, ALL Z names relate to their engine size. 240z=2.4 litre, 280=2.8 and so on.

I had an '05 350 and believe me, the improvements over the 350 are great. As much as I enjoyed my 350, I don't miss all of the rattles and issues involved with it.

The 370Z is not lighter than the 350Z. Nissan claimed it was, but every magazine that has weighed them have noted they actually weigh the same as the 06-08 350Zs, and more than 03-05 350Zs. Pre-production 370Zs weighed a little less, but then additional safety equipment was added to the final product which added weight.

Anyways, all 07-08 350Zs (also 09 Convertibles) had the new VQ35HR motor, which is essentially the motor our VQ37HR is based on - just with less displacement and a few minor internal differences. Power differences between 350Zs were: 287HP > 300HP > 306HP. So our 370Z has anywhere between 26-45HP more. 370Zs also boast much better braking, especially if you get the sports package that comes with the 4-piston front/2-piston rear 14-inch brakes.

Then you simply look at the interiors - the 350Zs best interior with navi still looks like it was made from a bin of plastics used to make legos. Where as the 370Zs best interior looks and feels absolutely wonderful all around. Headlights, taillights, every single body panel, suspension, etc. are all different - the cars share practically nothing expect for the 6-speed transmission.

agreed, but i agree with other poster that this car is basically a 2nd gen 350. it improved on the 350, but it didnt do anything revolutionary. think 1st gen miata to 2nd gen, not 2nd gen mr2 to 3rd gen mr2

I can see your point as long as you don't bring miata doors into the discussion.

The motors are a bit more different than that. The valve setup is totally different (variable timing on bothintake and exhaust instead of only intake). This allowed for a bit more power and better gas mileage atr the same time.

AlphaSnacks 05-03-2011 03:41 PM

Like I said, without getting technical, the differences are minor. We aren't talking VQ35DE and VQ35HR differences here.

Ah ok I understand your point then. I think there are two different ways of thinking going on. 1 says the 370 was not revolutionarily different from the 350. 2 says the 370 is different (even if in marginal ways) from the 350 in almost every way.

kenchan 05-03-2011 03:41 PM

the appearance is major.
