Default If you drive a Nissan, you're not an American?

Some aspects of this post may offend some members and that is NOT my intention. Please don't miss the main point. A new neighbor moved in a week ago. I saw he had a 67 GTO, totally restored, good, his wife a newer Pontiac sedan, and they also had a Chevy truck. I try not to judge but, having lived in this part of Missouri for 20 years, I have encountered a certain mentality that equates owning "foreign" cars as bad. I introduced myself and told him the previous owners were meticulous in their care of the home. He said, "Of course they were, or we wouldn't have bought it." His tone was a little smart a&$ but I shurgged it off. I told him they put a lot of time in the yard and so forth. He told me of course they did because that is the only kind of home they buy. I tried again. I commented on how nice they and all their new neighbors were. He said I would notice no change with them. I told him I keep to myself, mind my own business, and whatever he did on his property, house, driveway, etc. was none of my business. He stared at me without answering as if he didn't like what I said. I tried one more time. I commented on how nice his 67 GTO was and mentioned I had some old cars I played around with and hoped to get to them one day. He asked which kind? I told him 66 Plymouth Valiant convertible, 68 Barracuda, and a 68 Charger that was maybe more rust than metal. He then grabs me around the neck, I kid you not, and shakes me saying, "Then why are you driving Nissans!" My wife has a Sentra. He asked me again saying I should drive only American cars. So I had had enough. I told him I wasn't buying cars from companies whose unions gave money to elect people hostile to my political interests especially my liberty. He asked what I meant and I told him the 2nd Amendment. He then launches into talking points about no one needing a 35 round "clip." I explained my dad carried an M1 Garand in the Korean War and no one had a 35 round "clip." He then began to pepper me with one question after another asking a new one before I could answer and old one. He then tells me he is from Detroit, is a GM Auto worker, an assembler, and was transferred to Missouri. He told me he was union and a Democrat. He then tells me I am a teacher, (my neighbors told) and how do I feel about that. I told him I am not in the union and wouldn't join one because I don't want labor money going to Democrats or Republicans. He then tells me, "Well, I'm a true blue American. I'm American to the core, I drive American cars, am in the union, and a Democrat." In other words, if you are not like that, you are not an American. He then excused himself and went into his garage. I finished cutting the grass and then backed my red Z out of the garage and washed it, slowly, even though it was clean.

Seriously --- try to have no more than 3-4 sentences per paragraph for improved readability. Otherwise an interesting piece. It goes with where in the country one lives.

Haaha way to hit it off with the new neighbors. You could of always reminded him that The Camaro and Challenger are built in Canada and that Nissan has a huge plant in Tennessee.
Monzy likes this.

And a second plant of similar size in Mississippi. Over 60% of all Nissan's and Infiniti's sold in the US are made here. I'm not sure the Big 3 could say that. (Unfortunately, our Z's are not)

What was frustrating was I kept trying to say nice things and it got worse and worse. I mind my business so I expect no problems.

So if you're not a unionized democrat, you're not American?

Anyway, tell him you support American car dealerships which put money back into the local economy.

I missed the part where you kicked him in the nuts and then broke the arm he used to grab your neck.

I am not saying I am a badass by any means, but no matter how big someone is, you cant let people do things to you like that. I would rather possibly get my *** kicked than to live with that feeling you get later on when you let someone do something like that to you. I had that feeling after a few mild altercations from my younger days, and it is one of the most awful feelings I have ever experienced personally. On top of that you must live next to this guy for at least the near future, and now he probably thinks you cannot be taken seriously. I dont know man, but this is definitely a bad situation now.

+1;000,000,000,000 on this one. That arm placed on the op shoulda been broken outta principle but...

Why did the op stay there for so long trying to have conversation with a guy he was able to see right off the bat, is an a$$hole??? Was he really that bored and had notthing better to do but force conversation with a redneck idiot? And after a verbal assault and physical disrespect your reaction is to clean your clean 370z?

Honestly when the ahole new neighbor started talkin crap I woulda said have a nice day and minded my neck. Some people aren't worth your time and if you are telling this new guy, the last neighbors were meticulous and good neighbors, he might have taken it like you were all up in the old neighbors business and was being hostile right up front because of his assumptions. Maybe he don't give 2 sh1ts or doesn't care about the last neighbors and the op was annoyiing the crap out of him??? So maybe he became prejudiced and began spewing rhetoric to annoy the op on purpose??? There's always 3 sides to a story. We are only seeing one.

The fault is on both parties for the negative convo but there is still no reason for that jerk to touch the op.

This is not going to end well. I'm guessing he and wifey aren't coming over for dinner anytime soon?

Here's some ideas for ongoing shenanigans that will have your neighbor thinking twice about his recent purchase...

1. Next time you mow the lawn, wear a KKK outfit
2. Hang a big pentagram on your front door
3. When you go to get your morning paper, do so in a pair of Speedo's that are 2 sizes too small
4. Wear a turbin with the Speedo's
5. Get a pet crocodile and keep it chained up on the front porch
6. Post up a couple signs on the closest telephone poles explaining of how a half dozen king cobras got loose from your property (don't forget to offer a reward for return)
7. Sneak a big DUB sticker on the back of his GTO
