That's right. It is like those who preach tolerance and acceptance as long as you think and act like them.

I saw he had a 67 GTO, totally restored, good, his wife a newer Pontiac sedan, and they also had a Chevy truck. I try not to judge but, having lived in this part of Missouri for 20 years, I have encountered a certain mentality that equates owning "foreign" cars as bad. I introduced myself and told him the previous owners were meticulous in their care of the home. He said, "Of course they were, or we wouldn't have bought it." His tone was a little smart a&$ but I shurgged it off. I told him they put a lot of time in the yard and so forth. He told me of course they did because that is the only kind of home they buy. I tried again. I commented on how nice they and all their new neighbors were. He said I would notice no change with them. I told him I keep to myself, mind my own business, and whatever he did on his property, house, driveway, etc. was none of my business. He stared at me without answering as if he didn't like what I said. I tried one more time. I commented on how nice his 67 GTO was and mentioned I had some old cars I played around with and hoped to get to them one day. He asked which kind? I told him 66 Plymouth Valiant convertible, 68 Barracuda, and a 68 Charger that was maybe more rust than metal. He then grabs me around the neck, I kid you not, and shakes me saying, "Then why are you driving Nissans!" My wife has a Sentra. He asked me again saying I should drive only American cars. So I had had enough. I told him I wasn't buying cars from companies whose unions gave money to elect people hostile to my political interests especially my liberty. He asked what I meant and I told him the 2nd Amendment. He then launches into talking points about no one needing a 35 round "clip." I explained my dad carried an M1 Garand in the Korean War and no one had a 35 round "clip." He then began to pepper me with one question after another asking a new one before I could answer and old one. He then tells me he is from Detroit, is a GM Auto worker, an assembler, and was transferred to Missouri. He told me he was union and a Democrat. He then tells me I am a teacher, (my neighbors told) and how do I feel about that. I told him I am not in the union and wouldn't join one because I don't want labor money going to Democrats or Republicans. He then tells me, "Well, I'm a true blue American. I'm American to the core, I drive American cars, am in the union, and a Democrat." In other words, if you are not like that, you are not an American. He then excused himself and went into his garage. I finished cutting the grass and then backed my red Z out of the garage and washed it, slowly, even though it was clean.
I call BS on the whole thing. If you were being honest about this, this massive chunk of text wouldn't exist in this form that currently strains my eyes.

Well I sure as hell hope he doesn't make his students do word problems. I mean, my spelling and whatnot are FAR from perfect, but that paragraph was off the charts.

OP: That sucks that your neighbor is such a closed-minded ***. I drive a GM and all that, but I love foreign competition. It's part of what inspires America/ns to do better, I think! Without competition, rot sets in.

I have a neighbor who's like that. Only owned American cars, mostly Chryslers from what I take: Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Magnum, Magnum SRT8, and now...dead broke with nothing. Hehe. But yeah, my neighbor is also a douche like that.

i'm American and i use paragraphs

seriously though, that sucks that you had a run in with your neighbors. i like talking to people who have different taste in cars. i can appreciate american cars and how they are different from imports.

if someone busted my balls about not buying american, i would just shrug it off because honestly i don't care. So many 'American' corporations outsource all of their manufacturing overseas etc, so what is really 'American' made is pretty hard to determine.

With certain products, if all the parts are made in another country, and it is assembled in the USA, the company can say it is American made.

besides, us JDM guys stimulate the economy more with our grossly expensive aftermarket parts that cost way more than anything made for american cars for no particular reason. so go us.

I judge cars based on the car itself, not where it is made. Unless its made in Korea, Yugoslavia, or Mexico

Heck, my neighbor loves my Dad's Z4 and my 370Z, and she's an old lady. But she's also about the most patriotic person I know.

buying "american" is a joke. From USA today, percent of american cars made in america.

I laugh at people with the MUST BUY AMERICAN attitude, as they park their american car in a garage made completley from China products/manufacturing (along with almost everything else they own)

I hate the whole "Buy American" nonsense. I buy whatever the hell I want to buy. I know on the 2011 Mustangs about 40% of the car is foreign. A lot of it is made by Hitachi and its subsidiaries.

yeah buyign "american" is kinda bull. Buying a Nissan keeps american's working too (the guys at the dealerships, shops etc) Its not a complete one way street.

Alot of them are assembled here.

And lastly, ignorant *** bastards just dont understand what a global economy means and the fact that the US cannot and could never have been self sufficient. We need the trade, and to keep trade up we need to also purchase foreign items.

Also, if for many many years, American products werent kinda crap and then also expensive due to *cough* unions *cough* it would help...

P.S tell im hes unamerican for trying to take away your freedom's and choices. Follow that up with he should move to a communist country where people tell him what he can and cannot buy. He'll love that.
