140mph w/the Nismo today....

Yeah I know....wasnt the smartest move. A Camaro Z28 tried me so I was compelled. One concern though, the car felt as though it was going to come off the ground I didnt feel stable at all, it seemed kind of jittery. I had to really focus on not losing it!! Needless to say I was a bit scared.
I am no stranger to that speed, I have done that w/my BMW 740iL, 650 and Twin Turbo 300ZX. They were all stable as a rock. Ironically the 7 felt the best. Has anyone felt a little unsure at that speed w/your 370?

tomnavone 04-29-2011 03:05 PM

Let the flaming begin!

HoneyBadger 04-29-2011 03:08 PM

No need to race against a Z28. Clearly, your Z is a clearly a good 6 numbers higher. Oh, and which track in NC did this occur at?

Always good to see the Icy Hot Stuntaz.

kenchan 04-29-2011 03:30 PM

like i posted, i do 1mph going up my driveway into my garage... this takes skillz

leighspped 04-29-2011 03:35 PM

yea i find my 370z is much looser at the high speed.
my audi S5 on the other hand it as easy as can be all the way to the governor

m4a1mustang 04-29-2011 03:38 PM

Keep in mind you are dealing with a short-wheelbase car in the 370Z.

warbird 04-29-2011 03:41 PM

@honey badger....that car has 426hp and 450lb/ft of torque...it is no slouch, I take pride in the fact that he could not or didnt know how to pass me, sadly I could not shake him either!!

warbird 04-29-2011 03:45 PM

the squirrely feel of the car at that speed concerned me, I dont really plan on making that speed an everyday occurance though. I was trying to get some insight on other folks experiences with the car at that speed as I am sure I am not the first to venture that side of the speedometer.

i do have this in mind while i go up the driveway into my garage... thus the wide track in the back narrow track in the front, you see?

holy lollies

warbird 04-29-2011 03:57 PM

@ m4a1mustang....arent ALL sports cars short wheelbased? Is the Caymen or 911 wheelbase significantly larger than the 370, some of the 911's do close to 200mph. Now I know the 370Z is not on a GT3 or Turbo 9111 level but I wouldnt expect it to be so loose. Its all good. I have seen what it does enough to not want to take it there again. Thanks to you, leighsppd and honeybadger for your input though.

warbird 04-29-2011 03:59 PM

hey USMCASA!! actually I was on 540 (I know...shame on me!!) inbox me with the information....hadnt heard anything about it!! Thanks

entrapment?

m4a1mustang 04-29-2011 04:04 PM

It's not entrapment. You don't have to race the guy just because he's acting like a d-bag. :)

It's just like that show "Bait Car" on TrueTV or whatever that channel is.

Or maybe he preferred to just look at your cute a$$ rather then look at you through his rearview.;)

thanks

I think the suspension is most capable of handling well at speed below 120, that just my experience

i dont really think i should have the experience of knowing how well handle at those speeds consider how few miles it has on it

went around 130ish on my Z and felt pretty stable

GZ3 04-29-2011 04:23 PM

yeah the few times i took my car up that high it felt stable, the Z feels good at top speeds to me

havent tried the 5.0 yet

tjlazer 04-29-2011 04:48 PM

Might be the Nismo suspension, upgrade it and see if that helps.

christian370z 04-29-2011 05:18 PM

I find my sport packageless Z stable as a rock at those speeds. Many factors affect high speed stability.

spearfish25 04-29-2011 05:26 PM

IBTL

But I'll still add that I've done 135mph at Road America and there were no stability issues. Keep in mind that I also had to use 100% braking from that speed to slow for the upcoming turn...again, rock stable.

warbird 04-29-2011 05:30 PM

we did have a lot of wind today...maybe I was incurring crosswinds. The more I think about the dumber I feel. I had no business driving like that. It wont happen again. I didnt buy the car to track or drag race it. Bought it for its looks, reputation and previous Z heritage (this is my 5th one).
Thanks for the input.

isn't it illegal for him to drive at this speed?

RexB 04-29-2011 05:40 PM

Unless you are being chased by terrorist space alien rapists, I can see no justification for driving at that speed on a PUBLIC road.

If you want to drive like that, do it on a track. :shakes head:

So...what year Z28 and outcome? Mods to both cars (if known)?

The fastest I drove a 370Z to was around 100. Felt great. Of course, I have discovered in other cars that 100, and above about 120, are two totally different things.

Only if he was going backwards.

They can't Intice u to race like that. It's illegal and that cop should get a ticket for speeding.

cossie1600 04-29-2011 06:47 PM

I don't know how you guys do it, I am already pooping in my pants going over 100. It's not that I can't handle the speed, I just don't want to get busted. I guess living out west and south don't have as many pigs as we do

:iagree:

Nismo_Q 04-29-2011 06:56 PM

Maxed out 155mph on my nismo and it was smooth. All depends on the road condition and wind. The nismo spoiler really adds down force to the rear wheels.

spearfish25 04-29-2011 06:59 PM

I think the only instability was from shaky hands from nervousness of driving those speeds on public roads. :eekdance:
