Cruise Control

I just discovered that you can't accelerate past 90 mph using the cruise control.

This has been discussed before. The consensus is you shouldn't be using cruise control at those speeds anyway.

I did not know this. Will it hold above 90 MPH if you use pedal first?

Not in the USA anyway.

While traveling across country on long drives where there isn't traffic... I speed... in some cases past the posted limit by 20-30mph. It's annoying to have to hold the pedal down for hourssss.

Better call the whambulance...

I don't think is safe to use cruise control at 90 mph here in the US.

However in Germany I did use my cruise control in my BMW at 120 mph on the autobahn.

:iagree: Same here, I'd set the cruise on my tC for 120 and be just fine. Never had any problems, cept when there would be someone in the left lane going slow that would NOT move. Other then that, it actually felt easier to drive at that speed vs at 60 mph.

I find the original post here to be informative. The guy didn't say where he learned this, or under what conditions. Could have been a closed course for all we know.

Officer: "Did you know you were doing 30 over? That's reckless driving in this state. Why were you going that fast?"
TO: "I was annoyed holding my pedal down."
Officer: "Oh, Oh snap! Oh, well then you're free to go! Sorry to inconvenience you further. Here, please now do 50 mph over to compensate for lost time."

I don't think I've used cruise control once in the roughly 2 years I've owned my car. 90mph isn't all that fast in Texas considering they just changed some speed limits to 85mph.

kenchan 04-21-2011 03:50 PM

the only time i use cruise is when im going 30-35mph in very boring police infested roads.

Trebor3 04-21-2011 05:36 PM

I was on the brand new, ultra smooth, nearly deserted toll road that nobody uses because it costs to much. Just getting to know my new car. There is about one car per mile and actually I never passed anyone because they are all hauling *** too. Police don't bother to patrol it.

Use a brick... :driving:

I can definitely see the need in Texas...

I just learned something new

I swear I forgot all about cruise control for like months
