Default How I will Deal with the 370Z "Problems/Concerns"

As some may know, getting Z on Friday. This long wait for it, and research before I even ordered, got me thinking on how I am going to deal with the "problems/concerns" I may or may not encounter.

Basically I am typing this because I am bored at work. Please do not read the rest of this if you have important stuff to do.

OIL TEMP ISSUE
I will pretend this is not a problem until I go into limp mode. I do not track or race so I'm not too worried.

FUEL GUAGE ISSUE
If vehicle dies on me during a hard right hand turn with a quarter tank of gas, I will try hard not to get hit by vehicles passing by me while I stand outside kicking the $hit out of the car.

PAINT ISSUE
My wife and I will be installing clearmask. If that fails and I have to drive without, I will never look at my hood and bumper for the life of my car. If you don't see a paint chip, is it really there?

BOSE SYSTEM
Talk radio sounds great on BOSE.

FUEL PRICES
Can't worry about crap I absolutely have no control over.

CABIN NOISE
Expected. It's a sports car. If my wife and I need to talk during a trip, we'll take another vehicle.

BREAK-IN PERIOD
Drive it hard on the straights and finesse it on the turns. She can learn my habits while I learn about her. We should be alright.

FIGURING OUT START/STOP BUTTON
Keep pushing it in and out untill she does what I want.

HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING
Just wait. She'll start cooking soon enough.

I'm assuming you wanted some sorta feedback otherwise you wouldn't have posted. And since I have time...

OIL TEMP ISSUE
No idea of this will be an issue for you. But as you mentioned, I wouldn't be too worried about it. But I'd advise anyone to atleast go through a summer monitoring it before committing to a cooler.

FUEL GUAGE ISSUE
I've had my car lower than a quarter tank and never encoountered it. Must have been a REALLY hard turn. I think if you can keep 4 wheel on the ground you'll be ok.

PAINT ISSUE
Sigh...yeah get the clear bra...

BOSE SYSTEM
I'm happy with the Bose. I realize it won't be the center of showroom but more than adequate. I think most of the people simply realize you could spend the money on aftermarket and still have some left over for others things

FUEL PRICES
True.

CABIN NOISE
Subjective. I'v never had an issue with conversations.

BREAK-IN PERIOD
I followed break in, but to each thier own. I've heard both and I've never seen a case where either caused engine failure.

FIGURING OUT START/STOP BUTTON
LOL. Push lightly and release. You don't need to hold it until the engine turns over. I say this cause it was porbably 6+ months until I figured it out.

HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING
The only time I get any type of hesitation is during a really hot day and my ac is on and even then its sporadic.

And because I failed to mention it at the beginning...Gratz on the new car! You're gonna love it!

The only things on that list that piss me off are the paint and the cabin noise.

But....

Paint is going to chip no matter what, even if you drive a Rolls Phantom. I have a clear bra and it chips under it. :-x

Cabin noise can be combated with louder exhaust sounds.

HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING. This has never happened to me.

FUEL GUAGE ISSUE
If vehicle dies on me during a hard right hand turn with a quarter tank of gas:

This has never happened to me either.

BREAK-IN PERIOD
Drive it hard on the straights and finesse it on the turns. She can learn my habits while I learn about her. We should be alright
.

I'm on my second engine and I was 100% by the book the second time around.

FIGURING OUT START/STOP BUTTON
Keep pushing it in and out untill she does what I want.

Yes. I've hit many times before and it only goes to acc or on without starting.

Serious? I'm supposed to have a clear bra installed this weekend. If it doesn't do a lot to help I would rather save the $ and repaint the bumper in a few years. I'm only getting the clear bra on the bumper btw.

Over the years I've had several new vehicles. With most of my cars/motorcycles the break-in period seems to be 600 miles. I don't think there is any magic behind this number but I think 1,200 miles is a little too long.

I'm usually fairly gentle for the first 250 miles. Then I start to increase the load (push the gas pedal harder) after that, but never full throttle or rev past 4,500 RPM. Around 500 miles I start to do some harder pulls and a couple at full throttle to redline, but only after the vehicle is FULLY warmed up and the temps are stable (about 20 minutes of driving). Once I do this I continue to drive for a while in a more gentle fashion (another 10-15 minutes) before I park the vehicle. I then let it cool completely before driving again to heat cycle the parts. Probably not needed.

Breaking in an engine (or vehicle) isn't an exact science. Most of this is done by the time we buy our cars anyway. My Z had 16 miles on it at time of delivery and I'm sure it was driven hard at some point before I got the keys. The thing to focus on is managing heat in a new engine & driveline. Having proper fluids at proper quantities and being sensible is all that should be needed these days.

As for some folks changing oil very quick after break-in...I'm not set on that. I usually change at 1,800 miles for any vehicle. I realize there is a little extra metal in the first oil fill from break-in but I doubt large enough to cause any harm. If nothing else it may act as a minor polish to help things seat and fit properly in the long-term anyway.

Just what I do, not gospel. I've never had an issue with any engine I've ever owned (yet...) and have been buying new vehicles for 18+ years.
