Since then I've hit it a few times, just as I was just putting in the clutch anyway. My light is set at 7,000 rpm's.
What was your oil consimption that prompted the new short block? What is it now with the new engine? Thanks.

Every once in a while my 7at downshift is delayed, which turned out to be bad yesterday as i was doing 40mph, and downshifted fom 3rd to 1st, because i thought i didnt hit the paddle all the way, however it was just being delayed....sounded like my engine was gonna splode! dam.

... Don't worry about it. The 7AT won't let you downshift past the rev limiter.

I get those occasional delays when downshifting too, VERY annoying. Luckily upshifts are never delayed, THAT would suck.

I've bounced off the rev limiter a few times. Well, you don't really bounce off of it. I don't really see it as something to be concerned about, the rev limiter seems to be set pretty conservatively. When I was on the track, I was pretty much shifting at the limit for every shift. Even on the street I shift at red line a few times a week.

I've never actually hit it. Where's our rev limiter set at?

@ 7,500 (where Redline starts). It might be 7,600 actually, but it's pretty close.

Live a little!

I've taken it to redline, just never hit the limiter. I guess it must be slightly past it.

Yeah, maybe I'll test it out tonight, it's probably 7,600 then.

I like how with the 370Z it doesn't bounce off the limiter when you hit it, it just holds the rev's there. Makes me sound like less of an idiot if I shift late. (and this is with paddles, ).

It also won't "queue" up a downshift if the downshift would be past the rev limiter, it simply ignores it. Of course you still might get the delay which will queue up multiple downshifts if none of them will cause a shift to hit the rev limiter.

I'd love to know what that "problem" is, and if a tune can fix it. I know my tune from Uprev didn't change that at all.

Yea i have no idea if you can fix it....

i just like downshifting a gear before i accelerate so i can hit the 4500 rpm range, thus getting rid of the acceleration "delay" present when accelerating in auto mode...

however yesterday i double down shifted which i assumed couldnt be good....

I drive in Manual mode about 90% of the time, and the delay happens in that mode too. I'd love to just figure out whether or not it's random, so I could predict when the delay will happen.

Also, when you switch from Auto to Manual (depending at the RPM, obviously), it will down shift twice. For example, going highway speeds, it will go from 7th to 5th.

Six quarts in 2,900 miles.

What is it now with the new engine? : Two quarts in the first 1,800 miles then it miraculously stopped. Coincidentally when I put on the intakes.

Thanks for asking.

I frequently double downshift accelerating off a ramp - 3rd gear is good for getting up to highway speeds quick.

In auto mode the car definitely isn't afraid to get above 7000RPM.

Peak power at the engine isn't what matters, its power in gear, and at redline you are always putting down more torque than at the same speed in the next gear.

I attached a PDF showing that around here somewhere...

I did a few tests on the way home, and on the 7AT, 7500 RPM is definitely the where the rev limiter kicks in. This was with my Uprev tune, I didn't think to try the stock tune, but the rev limiter was supposed to be left the same.

In my completely uneducated opinion, I don't think there is any real difference in engine wear if you are shifting around 7k rpm and 7.5k rpm. They put the rev limit at 7.5k rpm for a reason. Someone feel free to disagree with a more educated reason on why this isn't correct, please.
