Awesome! I'd have to say that Chris is by far my most favorite driver of the FD series... He is a beast!

How do you not understand the appeal of drifring?
It's loud and obnoxious and involves cars that serve no purpose -- except to make tire smoke and noise. That's awesome.

Much like X Games and Olympic Gymnastics and/or ice skating, it's all style points, but there is still a very athletic or skilled display going on. I prefer objective results, racing for speed. I like Rally and Formula 1. Not so much NASCAR. However, no matter what I like, it all requires skill, and it's all fun to watch for someone. |

I don't think anyone has a problem with that, but the fact its a sport is silly really. Does it matter if there's a "competition" going on, or are you just going to see the loud, obnoxious cars sliding around spitting smoke everywhere? Odds are, 95% of the people there don't give a **** about the "sport", and just want to see some cars do some badass sliding, and that's A-OK with me. I can COMPLETELY appreciate the skills it takes to be a good drifter, but I wont ever recognize it as a sport.

Like someone mentioned earlier about gymnastics. It is very skillful but it bring anothernelemnt to be judged : STYLE racing simply does not have it. The fastest guy wins is boring. Being wble to express your style with a 500+ hp car sliding sideways is comepletly different. I think its a sport, just like gymnastocs is a sport. How can you speak on the odds of what appeals to the fwnbase whn you yourself arent even a fan??

I don't know if any of you guys realize this... but there are people that play video games professionally. I'm pretty sure there is a pro gaming league.
If THAT can be a "sport," drifting certainly can be. It takes tremendous skill to drive cars like that... The definition of the word "Sport" (Noun) an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc. I'd say by definition... Drifting is a sport. /thead |

The definition of what does and what does not constitute a "sport" varies from person to person. Whether it's sports or it's entertainment, people enjoy watching it. There is no denying that.

I don't really think that's quite how it got started. Its roots are from rally racing since those cars slide very easy. Then, Keiichi Tsuchiya started drifting while he was racing and it became popular.

Since I don't know anything about Drifting, please help me out. What I got from reading the posts is that it is not a race. They are sliding around and getting judged on style. Is that right?
