I am perfectly fine with this, especially since this will only be in rural areas and be on new/rebuilt roads.
Honestly, travel from Houston to Dallas, I was being pushed when I was doing 90mph on I45 and I was in the slow lane with people still passing. I think Texans can handle it but of course there will be a few idiots.

Yep, going to other cities is not as bad because there are more small towns you travel through and force people to slow down (speaking of Houston to Austin/S.A./etc.)

I've heard the number of accidents is proportionally around the same too. I'm so jealous of this 85 mph speed limit. I would love that kind of speed limit here.

I have been dreaming about the day NJ goes up to 75... The closest state to NJ that does 75, is Dubb V. You Texans are spoiled with your 5 lane highways and, hopefully 85 speed limit.

Most of I-10 is already 80mph anyway up until you get closer to San Antonio. & that's coming all the way from El Paso too. Not too bad tho, I'd like to see the increase in more of the country areas.

Higher speed limits make sense in big states with wide-open, rural stretches between towns.
When I was in Montana, you had to drive 85 on the highway if you wanted to get to the next town in less than an hour! I don't see how higher speed limits would be a good idea in a congested state like NJ, though.
