Body shop FAILURE!
So I got into a fender bender about a month ago and took the car in to a local body shop to get the repairs done. Because the car was so new all the parts were ordered as new straight from parts source.
The day that I brought the car, the estimator asked where the bumper was, I told him it completely came off but I did take every nut bolt and fastener off and bagged it for the auto techs. Didn't really seem like that big of a deal..... Two weeks turned into just shy of a month, I called and got the same answer: "we didn't have a bumper to start with so it's been hard getting all the parts".....PATIENTS... So we finally went in today to get the car.....THEY SPRAYED THE ENTIRE FASCIA! BEFORE http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k3...h_IMG_0816.jpg AFTER! <a href="http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k307/mjohn617/IMG_2632.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k307/mjohn617/th_IMG_2632.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket" ></a> |
FAIL!!!
and you didnt complain and drove it home? |
 Not surprising. My dealership damaged my rockers during service and I had to take my car back to the shop 3 times to get them to do the job right

NISMO braces. :icon17:
|
Ha ha. Or the infamous Dorkfish.
|
Ugh! I would be so pissed.
Body shops hate me because I act like I can do it better... The sad thing is, if I had a spray booth..I could. Bring it back to them with a picture of how it was before and tell them to redo it. All it takes is a little more work to tape it off and make it right; those guys are just lazy. |
unique? :icon14:

I don't really care how it happened, I just want it fixed. I have yet to receive a response from the manager, I will keep you posted. Quote:

Tell them to get you a new bumper. Keep this one on until they have it on hand. No way I would accept this.
|
They should definitely redo that!
|
hahahahaha...epic
|
Is the plastic removable?
|
Wow that's retarded.
|
Looks awesome! Did you tip the painter?
|
Man, no if ands about that....make em fix it and fix it right. I wondered what my color Z would look like if the grille was painted out, epic fail....... :(
|
The problem is that the black is actually the bumper material itself, unpainted.
|
I had a short laugh and showed to my wife. She liked it. A meek grin came ovr my face and I could not say another word. so you are pissed, but maybe you will get more compliments from women on your car. :)
|
I know you will get what you want in the end. Hang in there.
|
As a painter at a large dealership I can see how the mistake was made. The painter didn't have the old bumper to look at and made a mistake. It happens when you paint 5-6 cars a day.
Take it back and have them get you a new bumper. There is no way to fix that one properly. Any respectable shop will have no problem getting you a new bumper and fixing it right. |
You now have the most Miami Vice Nismo Z on the forums!
But seriously, I had a similar experience with the body shop I used for my front bumper on my last car. They painted over all the plastic trim and ended up ordering new ones, they must love doing things more than once I guess... |

So I just got back from the auto body shop after a long e-mail and a phone call. The manager had no excuses, was very apologetic and offered anything to make it right, free rental, pick up the car and more. I told him we would be right down to drop the car off, my wife was sooo pissed off she didn't even want to drive it while the new bumper came in! (This is her car by the way, she ordered it from the dealer, waited like 6 months for it to come in and won't let me do **** to it other than a supercharger.) So I drove the car back, spoke with the manager and gave him the keys. He said that a new bumper would be ordered and painted in the proper fashion, anything we need he would assist with. I have to say I am very impressed! My pocket full of questions pretty much went out door due to the fact that it was going to get done right, even though we have been waiting forever it seems. My main concern was "how the hell did it make past final inspection?". I guess a little bit more patients, we might have our baby back. Quote:
GOT IT! I guess not quite yet right? |

I forgot, I was going to post this in the NISMO section as a data reference, I guess I just throw it in here. The car I hit had minimal damage, it was at a four way stop and I was going maybe 3mph...just clutched in and BOOM! Here is the damage from the repair bill!

Your wife drives the Nismo as a daily commuter?! I envy you and applaud her.
I've been searching my whole life for a girl that only drives stick, I will marry her if I ever find her. |
yikes...thats quite the repair bill!
glad you got everything sorted out. my twin is back on the road! haha |
Before taking it back I would to see whether they don't simply mask and paint the affected area versus new replacement. With the availability of parts potentially scare, it will be interesting to read how this plays out.

Are you certain the center section / grill opening comes matte black from the factory? I purchased a brand new Nismo front end for my Z and the whole bumper was delivered in primer gray -- including the center opening. I had the body shop paint the twin posts and middle shelf gloss black, and paint the rest K-51, just because I like it that way.
Your body shop may only need to repaint your grill opening matte black in order to restore your bumper's stock look. You should have it in and out in a day. |
First, call me crazy but I don't think it looks bad!
Second, I wouldn't have dropped the car off. They can order and paint a new bumper and then it takes 15min to install when it comes in. I hate leaving my Z in a shop, especially for no reason. Third, you can mask that area off and paint it a flat black. It'll look fine. |
There is no excuse for a bodyshop to mess this up. Anyone who cares about their work would make sure it's right and with plenty of 2 toned paint schemes on cars these days how hard is it to look on the Internet to get it right.

The other thing that hit me was service was not due as a customer, it needs to be done right in every way unless asked. I almost went with the Stillen front end but backed out...I want classic...original...the way it was, that is why I pay for insurance. |

Hmmmm... I'm trying to think it looks good.
Naaah! |
Guys, if they just paint over it with matte black, and he gets a rock chip, it could make a really ugly white paint chipping
|
Well, it's looking good to me.
|
if it were me, i'd refuse to pick up the car until they made it right... the body shop can/will fix it including covering your rental for the duration.
|
I must be a nut. I like it haha. I can see why your mad though.
|
wow wtf. It's fkin horrible.
|
So we just got our car back on Monday, everything looked great. They replaced the bumper and found the proper paint code. The bumper is actually grey from the factory, the center has a black paint code, kind of interesting. I would post some pics but there isn't anything special now, just looks like the day we bought it.
