The problem is that the black is actually the bumper material itself, unpainted.

I had a short laugh and showed to my wife. She liked it. A meek grin came ovr my face and I could not say another word. so you are pissed, but maybe you will get more compliments from women on your car.

As a painter at a large dealership I can see how the mistake was made. The painter didn't have the old bumper to look at and made a mistake. It happens when you paint 5-6 cars a day.
Take it back and have them get you a new bumper. There is no way to fix that one properly. Any respectable shop will have no problem getting you a new bumper and fixing it right. |

You now have the most Miami Vice Nismo Z on the forums!
But seriously, I had a similar experience with the body shop I used for my front bumper on my last car. They painted over all the plastic trim and ended up ordering new ones, they must love doing things more than once I guess...

So I just got back from the auto body shop after a long e-mail and a phone call. The manager had no excuses, was very apologetic and offered anything to make it right, free rental, pick up the car and more. I told him we would be right down to drop the car off, my wife was sooo pissed off she didn't even want to drive it while the new bumper came in! (This is her car by the way, she ordered it from the dealer, waited like 6 months for it to come in and won't let me do **** to it other than a supercharger.) So I drove the car back, spoke with the manager and gave him the keys. He said that a new bumper would be ordered and painted in the proper fashion, anything we need he would assist with. I have to say I am very impressed! My pocket full of questions pretty much went out door due to the fact that it was going to get done right, even though we have been waiting forever it seems. My main concern was "how the hell did it make past final inspection?". I guess a little bit more patients, we might have our baby back. Quote:
GOT IT! I guess not quite yet right? |

I forgot, I was going to post this in the NISMO section as a data reference, I guess I just throw it in here. The car I hit had minimal damage, it was at a four way stop and I was going maybe 3mph...just clutched in and BOOM! Here is the damage from the repair bill!
INSANE! I bet my rates go up up up! Last edited by mjohn617; 04-05-2011 at 09:20 PM. |

Your wife drives the Nismo as a daily commuter?! I envy you and applaud her.
I've been searching my whole life for a girl that only drives stick, I will marry her if I ever find her. |

Before taking it back I would to see whether they don't simply mask and paint the affected area versus new replacement. With the availability of parts potentially scare, it will be interesting to read how this plays out.

Are you certain the center section / grill opening comes matte black from the factory? I purchased a brand new Nismo front end for my Z and the whole bumper was delivered in primer gray -- including the center opening. I had the body shop paint the twin posts and middle shelf gloss black, and paint the rest K-51, just because I like it that way.
Your body shop may only need to repaint your grill opening matte black in order to restore your bumper's stock look. You should have it in and out in a day. |

First, call me crazy but I don't think it looks bad!
Second, I wouldn't have dropped the car off. They can order and paint a new bumper and then it takes 15min to install when it comes in. I hate leaving my Z in a shop, especially for no reason. Third, you can mask that area off and paint it a flat black. It'll look fine.

There is no excuse for a bodyshop to mess this up. Anyone who cares about their work would make sure it's right and with plenty of 2 toned paint schemes on cars these days how hard is it to look on the Internet to get it right.
