oil temp question, (not a complaining thread)
so i was driving 90 mph on highway at 45F for about 30~45min, it was dark at night, and i notice 215F on oil temp. Is it normal for 370z?
I kno ppl say 370z has oil temp issue, but my question simply want to see if this is normal and just wanted to confirm. also what is optimal/normal operating temp for oil? my guess is around 200? |
yeah its pretty normal

Mine is always around 200-220 and I live in Florida, so yes it is normal. If you drive hard or track your car I would suggest an Oil Cooler. Once I go F.I I will be putting on an Oil Cooler, I just don't see the need for one now.

your engine is gonna blow up at that temp. Overreact now and install a aftermarket cooler just like many members in this forum......who doesnt even track their cars.

POP!! Fizzzzzz!! There it goes!!

Here in Southwest Florida mine stays around 210 or so and after some spirited driving I hit 220.

To the OP: anything between 180-220 degrees is the optimal operating oil temperature. I have personally hit 240 degrees just sitting in traffic before I installed a oil cooler which is not ideal, even short spurts of spirited driving resulted in 270+ degree temps at which point oil becomes much thinner and not as capable to protect the engine.
Some have more of a problem than others, even in similar driving conditions however I recommend it for peace of mind alone as it can only help and you can be confident your oil temps will be controlled in any situation. Quote:

Most cars have operating oil temps that range from 190-230 or so. The Z doesn't really run that much hotter than most cars. 200-220 is normal running temp for the Z in moderate weather.

Eh pretty normal temp don't sweat it. Mine's is around 200 or a little below doing highway speeds and rises to around 220 give or take in stop and go traffic.

What does oil-pressure run at idle/various rpms at these various temps? Just curious.
|
Pressure runs 15psi at idle and 40 psi at 2k rpm per the manual. I'll have better info next weekend after I install my oil pressure gauge.
