To the OP: anything between 180-220 degrees is the optimal operating oil temperature. I have personally hit 240 degrees just sitting in traffic before I installed a oil cooler which is not ideal, even short spurts of spirited driving resulted in 270+ degree temps at which point oil becomes much thinner and not as capable to protect the engine.
Some have more of a problem than others, even in similar driving conditions however I recommend it for peace of mind alone as it can only help and you can be confident your oil temps will be controlled in any situation. Best post of the thread, thanks for the valuable information!
