dude, i just went to the dealer at 7:00am in the f-ing morning because i wanted to get my steering wheel problem (like yours) fixed. i don't know what is up but i just wanted them to check out the problem. my mechanic that i went to said that it was because of the tread of the tires and that it is because of the uneven treads that the steering wheel is not centered.

i drove it for 1 1/2 week and i said enough is enough. went to the dealer and basically got the same results you did. i'm waiting for their hunter system to be updated.

Hmm....if I were you guys, I'd make sure the techs are aware of this little warning in the service manual:

That's the biggest bunch of crap I've ever heard. The treads are uneven because the steering wheel is not centered! It doesn't matter if you have snow tires or racing slicks, the wheel should always be centered! If it is not then the toe is out of alignment.

i thought so too. but after doing some research on the problem online, some do say that because of the uneven roads, tires can have a different level of tread wear.

but i wanted to be safe. i went to the dealer.

and +rep for semtex for showing me that part in the manual. i'll make sure to bring that up the next time i go to the dealer.

The roads would have to be seriously cambered, i.e. you're driving the car slightly tilted all the time. I doubt that is the case, I haven't seen many roads like that in CA.

Guys, I have a sneaking suspicion that when the tech referred to uneven tire tread, he was actually referring to the asymmetrical tread pattern on the RE050A's. (You have the 19" wheels, right Arcticreaver?) It's BS either way, mind you. But for some reason, I just have this gut suspicion that the tech was trying to say 'oh, this is a natural thing when you have tires that have asymmetrical tread patterns'. Because think about it -- if he says it's due to uneven tire wear, that opens up a whole new can of worms for him that he probably wants to avoid.

Do the tires have an asymmetrical tread pattern? (Quick way to tell is if they have the word "Outside" printed on the sidewall, because that means only one side can face outside, which means the tread on the outside is not the same on the inside, which is a longer way of saying asymmetrical.)

I just looked up the specs. You have Yokohama Advan Sports, right? Those have an asymmetrical tread pattern as well.

yes those are the tires that i have.

but here is the thing, which is why i don't really trust my mechanic, nissian dealer told me yesterday that my tires have an even tread wear. sorry, i forgot to mention this.

but here is also another thing. the mechanic that i took my car to said that since my tire pressure was like 40psi at the time of check it, it MAY have affect the tread wear. he brought it back down to 35psi on all 4 tires and told me that the steering wheel will be straight after 1 or 2 months of driving. which i do not understand. but since he didn't really see a problem, he told me not to worry and that HIS OWN car had the same problem. i don't know if that was pure BS or not but who knows.

my steering wheel is, say if it was centered, it would be at 12:00 but it's like 12:03. minor but it's annoying as hell.

That would be funny if it weren't so dumb. What is he talking about - "It will get better"? I'd write Nissan just to tell them he told you that. It sure as hell wouldn't have anything to do with tire pressure, and it definitely won't magically get better. That whole thing about "yeah, my own car is like that" is probably something he says any time someone has a problem he doesn't feel like fixing.

it's just going to have to be a long wait for the nissan dealers to update their system. i didn't even get a call today. this better not be some f-ed up lemon since i didn't do crap to the car.

ok so i just came back from universal city nissan and after 5 hours of waiting they call me and tell me that they dont have the specs for my car and i need to wait two weeks for them to receive it. They did drive my car for 2 miles tho. wtf is that are they allowed to do that? Why is it taking them so long to update their system? when the car is already out and its been out.

My steering wheel is centered, but I have noticed that if, for example, I am going into a curve with a stop at the end of the curve, while slowing down the wheel will sometimes turn much further than needed. I have driven a FWD all of my life though, so I dont know if this is normal since its RWD or if there is a different issue.
