I was thinking about how closely the g series and z series have bin. '09 G37 is coming out with an awd version. Do you think threre will be an AWD version of the 370Z in our future?

Since they are sister cars, I can def see this coming. When they put their time into developing something for one car, they wouldn't mind using it for the other. But there is no info on this. Gotta wait a little more to get more info on it.

IDK. If they did something like that, wouldn't it be easier to spend ~40K for a awd 370z, then take it to GTM, Forged, Injected... for FI and forgo the GTR 80-110K sticker (not to mention the 7K brake job, 10K transmission, no VDC off, etc)?

Won't happen. Here are the reasons; First off, the Z is a dedicated sports car that serves as a halo model for the brand next to the GTR. Any dedicated sports car does not have AWD. The Z is a purist sports car and must have and only have RWD. Secondly, as somewhat alluded to earlier is the issue of price. Add AWD to the Z and you're looking at a car that starts in the $40's.

Jeez, I hope not. The Z's never been awd, no reason to start now. I've said before in other threads how much a fan I am of light(er) weight and overall power/weight, and adding 200-ish lbs for an awd model won't do anything for the car. Not to mention, that's more weight in the front with the driven axle, center and potentially front diffs. Keep it well away from the GTR, Nissan. Please.

Not if they want to keep the cost down. Look at the new STI's, they are pushing $38-40K now.
They need to take a look back at what happened to the Z32 when they started pushing $40K. I bet if they lost their fancy AWD system and 3 differentials, they'd easily be in the low 30s, if not high 20's. AWD is nice, but really adds a lot of $$$ and weight to a car. |

I drive a 335xi coupe. I drive it year round and through lots of snow with dedicated snow tires and wheels.
Love the car, fast, secure, fun. However, its a coupe, I would love to have a sports car. I might love the Nissan. But...unless they build an AWD version, it is a no go for me. 40k would be a good price point, great value if they put their engineering to work. Otherwise I'm looking at a GTR or a used 911 turbo (steep price but if I want a legit sports car that can handle any condition, they are the logical choice). FYI I'm not into the mitsu/subaru tin-can sedans/hatches. |

Although I would recommend looking at 997 C4S. Plenty fast, great looks (turbo styling), and it seems to be closer to your price range. To OP: Interesting idea but I doubt they would risk watering down the Z name by introducing a heavier, more expensive, and less conventional (for sports cars... especially for Z's) AWD system. I think Nissan is content with the Z being a RWD 2 seater, and expects the G37x to fill the void for those who need a sporty coupe with awd. |
