All General Discussion Readers: Do you use your CD player regularly?
(Mods, please don't move to Audio Section - I'd like to include the preferences of those that don't frequent that section as I do).
Just as the title says - wondering how much of us regularly use the in-dash CD player. With Apple lossless, I find it a pain in the arse to lug CD's around - even with the in-dash changer. My changer remains empty like the day I bought it. |
Sat radio and ipod is everything I need. If I have a CD, I immediately put it in my itunes, so it goes on the ipod anyway. I haven't used a CD on any vehicle I have owned in the last 4 years.

What's a CD?

I just bought Chris Browns new album, my first mainstream album I ever bought, and I love it so I guess yes, I do.
But I also have an iPhone and i like listen to the radio |
I got my ipad strictly to use for my music and navigation system
|
I use either my compact flash slot, or the built-in hard drive. Sometimes my iPhone.
|
Haven't used it once. I just use the aux input with my mp3 player.
|
all out AUX cord baby
|
I use it to rip CD's to the hard drive. Thats about it.

Aftermarket head unit & Ipod FTW!
|
I use to use the occasional CD in case I forgot my Ipod or something but being in Germany, I don't have any of my CDs yet and German radio isn't really top notch. So Ipod all the way. Way easier.
|
Only Aux port mated with my iPhone. I really want to mount an iPad and get ballin' up in there
|
hmm i always wondered what these strange discs were. i thought they were frisbees.
(i rarely listen to anything other than the radio these days) |
lately i've been connecting my USB thumb drive to my HU and using that for music
|
I use it from time to time. Usually it's because I've just gotten a CD and I haven't yet bothered to rip it and sync it to my iPod. I buy quite a bit of old music and often times, buying the CD from Amazon is cheaper than buying the album in MP3 format.

just bought an ipod solely for this car....prior to that (the first 2 weeks of ownership) i was using CD's...
|
Mostly USB key for me
...which is pretty much the same as making a CD I guess lol. But I do keep a CD in there that I made for my first drive, so I'll play that every now and then... |
I use Xm radio and my Droid X "wireless"
Better than cd's |
So that is what that slot under the nav screen is for...
|
Each CD I own has played exactly once in my Z -- merely to rip it to the HD. It's a bummer I can't load music via USB since now i have to rip each CD twice.
|
With the Kenwood DDX-814 I thought I would use the CD/DVD frequently because flash drives beyond 8GB were pricey a couple of years ago. Since I started using flash drives, I never had use for a CD/DVD drive. Plus, I hardly watch movies in the car. Therefore, I plan to sell the DDX-814 and downgrade to an Alpine media receiver.
|
I mainly listen to either XM or my ipod, but I do have a couple of audio dvds in my car just because they have awesome sound quality.
|
nah, not really....its all about the Cowon here
|
Is that what that slot is??????
:p |

Fix the poll question to include Music Box. :iagree:. I get confused when I leave a CD in the player, as I always use the music box. I have never used an Ipod, MP3, etc. attachments. |
I'd use the CD player even more if the car wasn't so damn noisy inside. You ipod generation youngsters don't even know or care that the music is compressed and seriously compromised in order to store it in that fashion.
But then again if your are listening to Chris Brown and other currently popular artists it doesn't matter. |
Yes, under these circumstances:
I forgot my iPod I left the iPod in the Mazda, then decided to take the Z I forgot my iPod and got tired of listening to my FI exhaust (OK, that's a lie...I never get tired of listening to my FI exhaust) |
I don't do the mp3 thing. I still prefer CD's and use the CD player daily.
|
Nope, aux in for my iphone.

I don't get it.
Let's say you're cruising down the highway or any other road and you want to listen to a particular artist or song. How do you fiddle with your tiny ipod player to find the song without getting into a car wreck? I feel like that would be kind of like texting while driving. CDs are easy to pop in and out of the player with minimal driving distraction. And you can just as easily create customizable CDs. By the way. I didn't get the Nav system, either. $2,000 for something that will be obsolete in a couple years and that my phone can do just as easily didn't seem worth it. So that could also be part of my problem. And to be consistent. The 370 Z is pure sex! It is hot, loud, and rough! |

Than the aux cable. and you should be able to control your ipod features from your HU |

If you've got the base unit your pretty much stuck with what you have.Using the aux cable. It works it's just not as good a signal
|
Thanks for the replies, all - poll looks so far what I was expecting.
(Dunno how to edit the poll to include Music Box - can anyone steer me in the right direction?) Keep the replies coming! |
