I just got my Z but i want to start modifying it. Only problem is i've never owned a car like this so i have no idea where to start as far as companies to buy from, or even what to buy really. I'm mostly looking for performance upgrades under 1000 until a turbo kit comes out. I want to put a discrete spoiler on aswell, any help you guys have is greatly appreciated thanks.

Does your Z have the sport package? The spoiler on the sport package is nice, and can be purchased/installed separately. A lot of aftermarket spoilers are just for looks - nobody did any testing to see how they affect coefficient of drag and downforce at various speeds. The stock sport package one looks like a good tradeoff with low drag, and probably had at least *some* research go into its design.

The simplest mod to do is going to be a cat-back exhaust system, but they tend to be a bit pricey (mine lists for about $1500, I went with Stillen). High-flow cats are cheaper and will also provide some decent gains. You could do either or both depending on how you feel budget-wise. Check out the Intake/Exhaust forum here in the Tech area for info about this kind of stuff.

Also, while I've got your attention: if the dealer installed locking lugs on your wheels, check to see if they have washers at the base like the other 4 lugs on the wheel. If they're just straight narrow cylinders, they're the wrong one (go tell your dealer to order the right ones for the car, and to put some regular lugs on for now so you don't damage the wheels or studs).

Yeesh, where have you guys been? Many dealerships are using 350Z locking lugs on the 370's, and its bad mojo...

Broken wheel stud and lug nut.

Dont have the sports package. I'm installing the carbon fibre nismo shifter thats all ive done so far. Could i order the spoiler from the sport pack and have the dealer install it?. Next thing i think is going to be a dvd/nav unit under the little cubby compartment.

The dealer has an add on called "Aerodynamics package," which includes the rear spoiler and front chin lip (600USD). If you find something that fits in the cubby you will be the first, so good luck, but if you have the base model the radio is a normal double bin and can be swapped out nicely. Once you get the nismo shifter on let us know what you think.

Pioneer AVIC-Fxxx radios do not interpret radio preset seeking commands. This is a limitation of the radio not the SWI-PS. There is no correction for this unless it comes from Pioneer.
