Default Alarm system

Hey guys,

After breaking the bank (twice over :P) for my mods, I was some peace of mind. I'm looking into getting a bad a** alarm system.
I was leaning on viper because i love the smartstart option, but being new to any sort of aftermarket alarm system, I figured I'd ask for help.

I'm looking for an alarm combined with a starter, being compatible with the smartstart is a plus. Any suggestions? I'm not too worried about the alarm being TOO sensitive, that's actually what I', looking for.

Thanks!

I don't know of any remote starter that works with the manual transmission and the 370Z. Let me know if you find one. I couldn't...

From what I hear, you can purchase some kind of bypass for the manual transmission/push-to-start. I could be wrong, though. A few of my friends are in the same boat and have done it. (with a 2011 STI and 2009 335i) both manual.
Assuming that the install was not an issue, could I please get some feedback on some alarm systems that would fit my criteria??

Thanks!

i believe you can get remote start for MT. Go on viper's website and find a nearby installer. call them and ask them they will be able to answer you better. I didn't get remote start on my 370, but i did get the smart start just for the phone thing and being able to know if the alarm was going off anywhere. i do know that i could have gotten remote start though and i have a 6mt

That's what they told me too. Still no solution. Too many "issues". I think stopping the motor was a problem after remote start.

But aside from the manual tranny issues, acan anyone chime in with some compatible alarm systems with the smart start that are just short of a mounted camera/turret? :P

I've got Viper 5901 installed and remote start works with my MT. There is a procedure for arming the remote start. You park the car, while it's still running release the clutch (this ensures that the shifter is in neutral), while holding the brake pedal engage the hand brake, then release brake pedal. Then you push the remote start button the remote. The remote responds letting you know it's ready for remote start mode. You get out of the car (car is still running), close the door, lock the car (arm the alarm). It shuts down the car and the remote start is now armed. If you unlock the car and open a door, the remote start is automatically disengaged.

Two downsides:
1. Lets say you remote start the car. Once you unlock the car and open the door, the engine turns off. You then have to start it again. The shop tech explained why they had to do it that way but I forget exactly why.
2. The car is locked after you arm the remote start, and the alarm is enabled and all that. But, once you remote start the car, the door locks get unlocked. The alarm is still armed though, and it WILL go off if you forget to disarm the alarm and just pull the door open. So this means someone could just open up your car while it's idling out there.

I'll take 1 of those ^^
Thanks for the info, weee. I'll speak to the shop i would do the install at, and see whata they say about this. Any chance this issue may be resolved in the future? Or is that just required with the manaual trans?

Just the manual trans has the issue as far as I know. No one has done it on a G37 as far as I know either.....

I have it on my 2008 G37 6mt. Everything works perfect, including the smartstart. There is no shutdown procedure. I installed it myself.

The viper alarm / remote start i had installed on my 93 Manual Supra had 2 modes. One for Auto Trans that required no shut down procedure to allow a remote start, and a Manual Trans mode that made you do 7 or 8 steps when turning off the car to allow for a remote start.

You can put the alarm into Auto Mode even on a Manual Transmission, but this is HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY unadvised. If you accidentally leave it in gear after a long day, or someone else (mechanic, friend, bodyshop) leaves it in gear and doesn't set the emergency break, you could accidentally remote start the car and send it threw a storefront window.

thus, i am looking into buying a Z....

there may be other options available, but i just want to make sure no one makes the same mistake.

It depends on how you install it. I tapped into the manual transmission gear wire so that the car will only crank if the gear is in neutral. If the car is in any other gear, the engine will not crank and remote start will display error.
