Grind when turning left
 

I have owned my Z for about 3 days now. It is a lightly used (7,250 miles) 09 with Sport Package and the previous owner was a woman 9 (not saying that some women don't like to drive a car hard). I went to leave yesterday and hopped in the car to go, when I started to pull forward and to the left I noticed a nasty grind/rumble type feeling in the steering wheel. I was backed into the spot and didn't have to reverse to get out, just pulled forward. I noticed the same thing happen when I left the place i went to, was backed in and I started the car and as I pulled away I turned to the left and the grind happened again. I also noticed that the tires are a little bit more worn on the outside than the inside/middle of the tire. Any ideas what this could be or has anyone else had this problem?

Almost sounds like the tie rod. But hard to say. It's still under warranty so take it to the dealer. And it does do this everytime you turn hard? Is there any vibration when driving also?

What was the temp outside?

I'm not sure if the Camber wear would be making a grinding noise, sounds like this is either the endlink, strut or the spring.

I had a similar problem in my old Altima and it was caused by the Spring. Is the suspension OEM or aftermarket?

Thanks for the input guys. The temp is about fourty degrees and it is a stock suspension. Its frustrating and makes me nervous to drive it.

Unless the car is driven ridiculously fast around corners (aka auto-x) then the inside should wear faster than the outside.

I wouldn't drive it any further until you get it checked out, it could be something relatively minor but better safe than sorry. Very first thing to check would be that all the lug nuts are on tight and that the tire pressures are correct.

Ok. I am going to drive it to Nissan tomorrow and have them take a look. Unfortunately, my past experience with my local Nissan dealer has not been very good :mad:

Well, it looks like I am slowly answering my own question. I tried using the thread search tool before asking but couldn't find much (maybe I am a moron, very likely :hello:)
But when I toss the search in google it finds several topics on the issue. Seems pretty common below 40 degrees F. The temp has been below fourty all day and i will give it a test when it warms up to the 60's later this week.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. It may just be the summer tires not liking the cold weather. When its warmer this weekend, try making a hard turn when your tires are still cold and see if you get the sound/vibration. If not, problem solved and if so, go to the Nissan dealer.

this is definitely the tires skipping on the pavement. i didnt believe it at first either, but one night i was backing the car out of the garage and noticed a skipping wheel/super jerky steering wheel. i got out to look at the car and realized...it was just 40 degrees with summer tires
