I had a radar detector, an Escort 9500. Very cool with its GPS, but it went off a lot and never detected a cop, so after 30 days I returned it. Still no ticket but they do go with the territory.

My 9500ix has saved me at least a dozen times -- including this morning on 680 in Danville. It went off quickly -- Ka band -- and I let off the gas just as I spotted the Man up ahead on the shoulder with his radar gun. I think I was around 80 - 85 when he lit me up but was able to get down to everyone else's speed in time thanks to the heads up.

I definitely don't like hitting the road without my V1. Even if I'm not speeding, it's just a comfort thing now. I couldn't tell you how many times it's saved my ***.
