I either started my midlife crisis early, or I'm not gonna be around long.
Don't worry about people that try to bring you down. Just enjoy your ride. |
I'm 45. Here's how I handle the Midlife Crisis topic, "It's my wife's car."

What crisis am I having? Like some said, it takes some of us years to earn the money to afford one but I've had a two seater continuously since 1979...and my 68 Barracuda....66 Sport Fury (440)...68 Charger (383)...and the convertible Valiant. Folks remember, the crisis is about hitting middle age and trying to hold on to what is gone. I could care less. Like I said, I'd take the Porchse or Z, you take the blonde.

It's kind of funny, I've had sportbike motorcycles for the past dozen years, and no one says much (TL1000, R6, Aprilia Mille). I buy the Z last year and it's a mid-life crisis. Go figure.
I thought I was actually slowing down by considering selling my Bikes and driving the Z more often. :driving: |
live life, love life, **** life...as long as your happy, let em blow you
|
I get that crap all the time too. I just tell 'em that driving my Z keeps me from having a mid-life crisis.

I remember when my Dad went to look at my car at the dealership. A guy was snapping pictures of it and asked "How much do they want for THIS one?" My Dad was sitting in it, and answered "It's not for sale, this one is my son's. It's just waiting for him to come pick it up." The guy asked "How much did that cost him?" (I guess fishing for the "I bought it for my son" line). My Dad's honest response was "I don't know, it's not my business." So... ...screw what others have to say and go enjoy your car! :tiphat: __________ As an aside, what do you guys consider "Middle age"? When I think middle-age, I think 35-45. |

Don't let it happen to you! :icon17: |

This is actually a sensible car to me :)

I am 40 and just got a Z, after waiting many years for the kids to get older, my income, net worth, etc to reach appropriate sums to drop 40k on a luxury car. But I am rather well adjusted, happy and successful, and I think the Z is a reflection of that, rather than a symptom of mal-content. Anyone who disparages us rewarding ourselves after putting in 20 years of hard graft and sacraficing to support a family, is simply envious and wants to conceal the fact they have don't have the ability to do the same.

Leave it to Shado to drag out a Video I last saw over half a lifetime ago... Midlife has sure lasted a long time.. I have not had a car with more than two seats since 1987. Not going to start now. |
The Truth of the matter
I saw a guy in a brand new Corvette. Although I'm pass the age of "mid-life" 35-45 as defined herein, I am not 60 or 65 as the grinning man appeared to be. For some of us, it takes us that long until the kids are gone and we can afford such a car. I bought my first sportscar, a red Rx7 in 1979, a year out of college. Again, I am convinced that people are simply projecting their own predilection onto others. I don't let it bother me. I just tell them "Are you okay? You're looking kind of tired these days."
