There have been many, many threads about the K&N drop-in filters, just do some searches. :)

Ken, it will take you DECADES to put 30k on your Z with it up stilts for 8 months of the year :icon17:

I like K&N filters, by the way :excited:. (I couldn't find the smilie called "look of moderate approval, but not all that invested").

I put em in mine... Not to save money, but to assist with performance(albeit probably minimal) especially without other mods.

TreeSemdyZee 03-09-2011 07:32 PM

I want the air filters made out of money.

Actually you're right. :icon17: I only have like 5k miles on the car.... but she is sporting KN cones.

Every vehicle I've owned for the last ten years has had K&N's within the first week of owning the car. My 05 Mustang GT currently has 210,000 miles on it with the same air filter. I clean it and re-oil it every 50K miles. Just had the engine tuned up and the shop said the internals look almost as good as new. I love 'em.

kenchan 03-09-2011 08:34 PM

^^ that's good to hear.

Ditto.
K&N filters are news to the OP? Where's my link to the Geico "live under a rock" video?
Next he'll be asking us if we ever heard of a Flowmaster. Oops, wrong forum.
Wait a minute... we ARE being overrun by Mustang guys, it seems.

I do. I drive my DD until it falls apart to the point that fixing it costs more than getting rid of it. Why not? It's just a DD.

As to the K&N Air Filter, I am neutral on it. I threw on in my DD to get the LAST little bit of mileage possible out of it, but as far as I can tell it didn't do much to help. If it did, it was very limited. (i.e. amount of ethanol at the "up to 10%" pump that day matters more). http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest3.htm

That said, when I sprayed my MAF sensor with MAF cleaner, that did actually help, either that or new plug-wires, although my other wires OHMed out just fine.

K&N's let more dirt through, so I am not a fan of them on "cars I care about". Just when I am trying to sqeak a 1/2mpg more out of my DD.

My little G20's exhaust did sound a bit "deeper" when I added the K&N.

My Z06 will keep the OEM filter in place.

Hey i saw some guys today driving with a Flowmaster sticker on their window. Do you know what Flowmaster is?

sonic370 03-10-2011 07:38 PM

imo iv'e used both K&N and of course the stock. if you only use the k&n filters
and no more mods it adds nothing. some will say it makes the car sound different. iv'e got pretty good ears and i can tell no difference.............
