Auto unlock NOT working when engine turned off
I just bought a new 370z last week, and noticed that the doors automatically unlock when the engine is turned off. I didn't like this and read in the OM (section 3-5 and 3-6) how to disable auto unlock (close door, ignition on, hold 'unlock' for 5 seconds). The doors no longer unlocked when the engine was turned off. After a few days I changed my mind and tried to re-enable the auto unlock feature. But the procedure in the OM did not work and the doors stayed locked when the engine was turned off.
So I tried some alternatives, like holding the 'lock' button instead of the 'unlock' button for 5 seconds. Didn't work. I tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes thinking the computer would 'reset' to factory default. Didn't work. So I googled '370z problems' and found this site :) Searched the threads, but didn't find anything and was hoping someone might know how to restore/reset to the original setting. If not, I'll take it to the dealer, but I'd like know if there's a simple fix before doing that. Thanks for any help or suggestions. |

Did you try this? You must follow this EXACTLY.
BTW, I have changed my setting from OEM. Kept it for two days. Then went back to auto lock (after 15 MPH). Hazard light flash confirmed both time. |

3. Within 20 seconds of performing Step 2, push and hold the power door lock switch to the position (UNLOCK) for more than 5 seconds. 4. When activated, the hazard indicator will flash twice. When deactivated, the hazard indicator will flash once. 5. The ignition switch must be placed in the OFF and ON position again between each setting change. When the automatic door unlock system is deactivated, the doors do not unlock when the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position. To unlock the door manually, use the inside lock knob or the power door lock switch (driver’s or front passenger’s side). But I did it exactly as stated, 1st time using the UNLOCK button, next time with the LOCK button. In both cases the flashers did not flash. Thanks anyway for the suggestion! |
Glad I came across this. Been meaning to post on this. I hate the fact mine doesn't unlock automatically when I shut the motor off. I'll have to change this.

Sounds like you should get the dealer to fix it...

There are 2 features, AUTO LOCK and AUTO UNLOCK. To reverse the preference of either you follow the directions exactly, holding the lock button towards LOCK to reverse the Auto Lock preference or holding towards UNLOCK to change the Auto Unlock preference. Whenever you make the change the hazards should flash to confirm.

Forget the locks, what exhaust are you getting? Intake? Coilovers? Wheel spacers?
The mod bug is contagious around here. Kinda like the cold virus on a long flight. Welcome to the forum. Wish I knew how to correct your problem. |
Ended up taking it back to the dealer today, and they verified the auto unlock was not activating correctly. Not sure exactly what they did to fix it, but I was told the computer module needed to be reset - whatever that means. I'm just happy it's back to the original setting where the doors unlock when the engine's turned off.
Now I can move to bigger and better things... like maybe putting some speakers in the back so I can actually use that 'fader' button :) |
