370Z Rally Car

Now this is what I'm talking about! Driven by Chris Van Woensel. If you search his vids, he drove a 350Z before this car.

m4a1mustang 03-08-2011 04:27 PM

That's pretty cool.

Vegitto-kun 03-08-2011 04:34 PM

lol I know that guy, nice guy.

up untill now most of the time he had to quit the race. he is having problems with the water temperature rising too much last time I saw him.

which I find hilarious. he had the engine enlarged and toughened.

suspension, tires, oil cooler, custom exhaust and all the other gizmos involving rally cars.

buuuut his radiator is still stock.

oh yes his car is actually white, it is covered in stickers.

also he has the stillen gen3 intake and fast intentions LTH.

it is completely covered in stickers mate.

it is cheaper than repainting the car.

I just know. I mean I saw this car go from stock to just empty shell. everything out of it. naked Z was sexy.

pictures of the car taken by my shitty camera.

hahaha, i think he's using the red vinyl to protect the white paint from rock chips... :icon14:

Vegitto-kun 03-08-2011 04:46 PM

ofcourse you never know when he might want to go back to stock :roflpuke2:

He actually was sad that we didn't meet sooner, he actually wanted the 7AT because it would of been easier to make a sequential gearbox(or so he said)

All I can say is that is awesome, now who will step up for a sequential box in their street driven Z.

GZ3 03-08-2011 04:49 PM

i like this....very nice

Jeffblue 03-08-2011 04:52 PM

haha i was gonna say maybe it was vinyl, but i couldn't tell from the videos. i can definitely see wrapping a rally car in vinyl being a good idea.

ScGRaceR 03-08-2011 04:55 PM

bad ***!!!

SoCal 370Z 03-08-2011 05:06 PM

Love this thread! Rep points given out.

Pharmacist 03-08-2011 05:47 PM

Where you been??? Rally Z's have been around since the 70's when the Z first came out.

spearfish25 03-08-2011 08:05 PM

What did he do with the e-brake? Install a hydraulic brake? I'd love to hear how that was done.

red6spd 03-08-2011 08:05 PM

Cool

Red__Zed 03-08-2011 08:38 PM

interesting. I wouldn't think a Z would be a very good platform to build a rally car from, but it looks like he's going with it.

Ventilation. I guess it beats opening a window and being sandblasted by the gravel your own tires are kicking up

350Z rally

They have been rallying 350Z's in Holland for the last couple of years. There is been a separate class for 350Z's within the Dutch National Rally Championship called the 350Z Challenge. Some random info about the challenge, for this year all cars have been modified to be flex fuel capable as they will be running on "M85", bio-methanol

No word on when they will switch to 370Z's though...

Here's a clip:

That would be a nice $30,000 conversion kit... sick nonetheless.

:excited:

WTB AWB swap? :)

The Japanese tuner Jun built an AWD 350Z by stealing the AWD system from an R-32 and installing a holinger 6-speed sequential gear box. I don't think he had rallying in mind as the car sits about 1 inch off the ground but with a different suspension setup it would be pretty awesome.

P.S. if you look in from the outside the front wheel area on our cars you will see that they actually left space for front axles. No one really knows what they were considering or if it was just a reflex action from designing the G37.

shadoquad 03-09-2011 09:20 AM

incredible.

GTHAUS 03-09-2011 11:09 AM

The 350z video is awesome. That'd be really fun to shoot.

It might just be a shared component, why redesign it for the 370 if the G37 one fits. No need for separate tooling for the different components and larger total volume for the part, bringing the total cost down.

Vegitto-kun 03-09-2011 02:03 PM

I wonder if he turned his VDC off :shakes head:

I'd consider taking the Z out during the winter once and awhile if it was AWD

This is in the actual body structure which is fairly unique to the car. Although they may have started with a G37 design and modified it.

ProfessorDave 03-09-2011 06:45 PM

Great videos! Love the sound.

Interesting, haven't noticed that yet, I'll take a closer look next time I have my car on jackstands with the wheels off! But I believe that, in addition to engine, suspension, electronics and other components, at least
part of the lower body structure is shared between 370 and
G37, just like it was for 350 and G35. Just how much and which parts specifically, I don't know. But this would explain why there is room for front axles even if they will never be offered on a 370.
