The car is definitely capable of 0-60 faster than 6.8 seconds, but I haven't bothered trying to time myself. If you want a fast 0-60 car (or fast 1/4-mile), save yourself a lot of money. For about $5K you can probably build a car that does 10 seconds in the quarter mile from a junkyard. It would suck in every other way though

Launching the car matters for two things: drag racing, and I guess street racing . It's really not worth pursuing in this car, it's not a drag car, and street racing from a stoplight is stupid. All you're doing is stressing your drivetrain for no good reason.

+1

FYI, I have a 2006 350Z 5AT that weighs more (3400 lbs), has far less horsepower (283 hp) and can do a 0-60 in about 5.8 sec. Something is definately wrong there.

So you have a 7AT?

I've typically heard that launching an automatic requires holding the car with the brakes while revving to an 'ideal' RPM. Then releasing the brake and squeezing down the rest of the throttle. A driving course I went to said "don't hold the brake, just stomp on the accelerator." In any event, I can't see how spooling up the engine from idle when the timer starts is going to get you a decent time...that could account for your very slow acceleration.

All the reviews I've seen say that the automatic is right on par with the manual...the manual is just more fun to drive. Thus with a professional-grade launch you should get down to 4.7s (best time I've seen) but more realistically 4.9-5.1s.
