Go online and put your information in a Progressive Insurance quote. Hopefully it will be better.

I'm saving $2.4k a year with all my stuff because I signed up with the above and called my company to quit their coverage. They came down to meet what Progressive offered so I went back.

Gotta love competition between insurance companies.........

Accidents happen, and often times its no ones fault, and the most important thing is that no one gets hurt. But if you crashed your 370z by being a moron, i would like to hereby thank you for raising my insurance premiums:tup:

Shop around, get a different car, or quit crying. I had an accident, so what. No matter what type of car you get theres always going to be collisions. After they totaled my car and renewed my policy it went from $98 to $104. No tickets were issued. I turned 25 two days ago.

Xander117 03-03-2011 01:25 PM

You said Geico....that is your first issue. They wanted some god awful amount to insure my R6, I went to state farm and pay like 360 for 6 months full coverage.

I use USAA for all my insurance except for my bike. Of course you have to be military or your parents had to be military to be able to get it. I even get a dividend check every year from them, which lowers my yearly amount by like 60-80 bucks.

Try statefarm, they have some pretty reasonable rates. Your big kicker is your age, regardless of record that is going to kill your rates.

Footloose301 03-03-2011 01:30 PM

Yep, Geico sucks. I switched to Progressive and my premiums got cut in half.

sig11 03-03-2011 01:33 PM

Oy. I guess I need to go insurance shopping. I like my agent but apparently $1100/6 is high. :) I guess living 1mi from Detroit probably doesn't help me though.

Decoy_TT 03-03-2011 01:36 PM

I am 27y/o and have a ticket on record but no accidents. Statefarm, my current carrier, quoted me $157 a month give or take a few bucks (I didnt write the quote down as it was just a first call type deal).

That's about 50 bucks more then I pay for my Dodge Neon and 90TTz currently. So not too bad considering it's a brand new 40k car. If anything I'm being way overcharged for my dodge neon, lol!

Did my video on starting the car without key increase ur insurance rate yet?

sucasa 03-03-2011 02:04 PM

$1176.00 / per year with Geico. I think my monthly is $98.00
Deductible is $1500.00

I guess I should count myself as one of the lucky ones who aren't paying up the nose for insurance..

I pay $821/6 months for these 2 vehicles full coverage w/ $1000 deductible through MetLife

fuzzywuzzy 03-03-2011 02:16 PM

um...my 6m premium with maximum coverage and 100/100 deductibles is only 434.00 you need to look at other insurance companies.

yea its definitely cheaper to do that. but technically if they find out you are the primary driver, they can drop your whole family from the policy. happened to my friend because of his "dad's" 1987 300zx:p

How would they ever find out though. They would have to watch you for a while and see that you are driving the car more than your parents to prove it.

I suggest it.), accident forgiveness, comprehensive with $500 deductible, and my 6 month premium is only $1200.

I find that hard to believe considering we have the highest rates in the country. I am with statefarm and I pay 1200 every 6 months for just the z with every discount imaginable except for being married. im 28 by the way in NOLA.

Yes I'm quoting myself....

Anyway... some of these rates actually went UP upon calling them...once they found out I only held my job for 1 month ( i just graduated college), they hiked up the premium even further...

dude you have no idea...

I called a bunch of the "cheaper" companies and just pretended to not have had a previous quote...they would give me the quote(usually within a couple hundred of the online quote), and then they would tell me that it was a good deal considering my age!!!!! HAH!

Oh and Did i mention those quotes are with a defensive driving course discount.

Nope. Not too concerned about it. It could definitely happen though because it proves that the Z is/could be easier to jack than other cars.

Insurance ratemaking 101:

Imagine a piece of paper floating in the air at an angle with the lowest point in a corner. Let the x and y axis represent two variables. Lets say credit score and driver age. As your credit improves the paper decreases in height. As your age increases the paper decreases in height. The height of the paper at a particular point represents how much you pay in premium based on these two variables.

Your rates (height of the paper) can change for any or all of the following 3 reasons:
1. The paper stays the same shape but raises in height off the ground.
2. The paper stays the same height on average but the shape of the paper changes. Perhaps it becomes steeper or it is made wavy or something.
3. The paper stays the same height and shape but your location on it changes.

Insurance rates are like this but they use something more like 20 to 30 variables. If you can visualize a 30 dimensional plane let me know. Every company has their own paper that can be completely different than the others. Thus, the only thing you can do is shop around and compare rates.

And making comparisons between other people is kind of meaningless. The reason being is that you know nothing about their company's piece of paper and where you would be placed relative to them.
