No snow in San Antonio it's scary driving in the rain could not imagine driving in snow. It usually sits in the garage till the rain goes away

I have no problem in the rain, but I won't even attempt to drive the Z in snow. I was pulling out of work one day in my 350 and was at an intersection making a left hand turn and the road was so icy, all I did was touch the gas and I did a full 360. Thank god it was 300am and noone was around! I don't mess with that type of weather anymore...not worth it

Yeap, I had enough close calls with my 350, so I know that I'm not even going to try anything close with the my 370.

We had some snow/ice over christmas here in dallas...the 370z did not enjoy the ice one bit. even going slow (5mph), i'd see the VDC light flicker as i tried to take a turn. im sure the tires were frozen hockey pucks and my only saving grace was that the roads weren't completely frozen.

next time there's ice, im staying home.

Yeah, they call them Summer tires for a reason. Granted snow in Dallas is pretty rare, but up here in the NE if you want to get around in the winter you get snow tires. Unfortunately only about 10% of the population up here has figured this out, so you still get a crazy number of accidents when it snows. 4WD doesn't mean squat without the right tires.

I've taken mine out a couple of times with 1-2" on the road (even drove it through hilly Western MD while the snow was coming down) without any problems on stock summer tires. If you have the MT, just remember to start it in 2nd and take it very easy off the line and around corners and you'll be fine. I wouldn't recommend long trips through it, but it CAN be done.

Rather than by wheels+winter tires, I think I AM going to break down and pick up a $1000 beater from Craigslist or something for the bad days.

Its all about the shoes. I had a E46 BMW M3 and in the winter I changed to winter tires and the car performed great in snow. On my E90 M3 I put on the Continental DWS tires they have performed great in the winter so far in the North East. If you get a winter tire set up you will have no problems only if you have a limited slip differential. My neighbors always look at me in shock when it snows and I take out my car and drive it. Summer tires are only for summer do not let anyone fool you that its ok to drive a car with those tires in low temps and snow all you are asking for is trouble.

You guys driving this car in snow are nuts. I think if you have money for a 40k car you would want to protect your investment a little and buy a cheap winter beater instead of not only risking being in an accident but also receiving many dents and dings from salt and misc crap from driving in the snow.

You know... there are cheap jeeps for like 2-3k. I drive a 2001 jeep cherokee in the winter months and wouldn't dream of taking the black Z out in this crap!

Two tips --

1. Always remember to keep your right mirror clean!

2. A high-visibility color like BRILLIANT WHITE can help others see and avoid you!

(After the Dec. 20th storm hit the Jersey coast, my Z stayed parked until everything melted off it. That took about two weeks. The Honda Element AWD I bought last summer, visible in the foreground, was on its way to Cape Cod as soon as the storm blew away, and was an absolute delight on the road.
