With it on it'll let you spin it a little before it kicks in. It's meant more along the lines of if you take a onramp too fast say at 80 mph and your back started to slide out to the point where any more will be dangerous/ spin your car that's when it kicks in and cuts power and uses brakes as necessary.....

I found it useful to know the limits of the VDC on my car, went to an empty parking lot and I figured out how much I can push it before it kicks in and helps me out.
