I had no idea your Prius suffered from bipolar disorder ("I'm electric...no wait, I'm petroleum based. NO! nickel fueled environmentally friendly! No, wait! Let's build an igloo out of playsand!").

haha. if it really made no difference, you wouldn't have bought the z. you would have bought two priuses
there's a reason why you bought that z. i am sure a prius is a nice ride but you probably would enjoy cruising around town with the z better, when you are not using it for racing.

As long as it is safe, cheap and somewhat environmental friendly. I could careless if it is made out of energons or WMDs. All I know is that I can get 42mpg on crappy boring drives when gas is $3.50 a gallon. Do I wish I have to Z from time to time when I am driving the Prius? Of course. But with the cost of everything being so high, I just learn to deal with it. (I also have soft semi racing tires on the car, not really affordable to drive 10K a year on it)

Of course, but what is the point to pour money down the drain when I am driving to work in rush hour or driving two hours to go have dinner with the in-laws? I just save my money and blow it when I am at the track. I am still wasting, just at a different time

Don't two cars cost more than just one, even if the one burns more gas? I'd be suprised if anyone can do a cost of ownership analysis for 5 years, splitting mileage between a Prius and Z, and show that there is a cost savings by owning the two cars and driving the Prius instead of the Z for say 75% of the miles (or whatever), compared to just owning the Z.

Charlie Sheen goes on shopping spree this month and buys four cars
By Steph, 25 Feb, 2011.

Charlie Sheen bought four different automobiles in the past month that total to $790,000, according to a report from Access Hollywood. An insider said that he didn’t purchase a vehicle for himself. Sheen bought a Bentley for an adult film star friend worth $320,000, including taxes and title. He bought a $150,000 Porsche Turbo for a different adult film star. His rumored new girlfriend received a Mercedes-Benz S63 that’s worth $160,000.

Meanwhile, Sheen’s soon-to-be ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, got a new Mercedes-Benz CL 600 for $160,000. Sheen purchased the new cars at Mercedes-Benz of Valencia in Valencia, Calif.

Anyway, who cares about mileage and the cost of gas? If you are really concerned about saving the planet and reducing your costs, you should not be driving a new $30k+ car such as a Prius or a Z. Instead, buy a 15 year old Honda Civic for $1000. Your costs are reduced by $29,000 to start, you'll get 30+ mpg, and you'll save the massive cost of manufacturing the new car.

Prius doubles as wife's car. She works from home, so I use it as a daily driver when I go to work. Z is the weekend track whore.

Hey, I have 2 cars! I'm not trying to waste money or kill the planet! You can't move kids to and from college in a Z.

And look at Kenchan...he has something like 8 cars! I hear he keeps the running continuously, too. You know where he lives by looking a where the ozone layer is missing right over his driveway.

there's a town in california called atherton. the news reporter says there are more cars than people there. on average, each person there owns 2 cars, even if they are kids

_______________
from wikipedia:
Atherton is an incorporated town in San Mateo County, California, United States. Its population was 7,194 at the 2000 census. In September 2010, Forbes magazine placed Atherton's zip code of 94027 at #2 on its annual list of America's most expensive zip codes, with a median home price of $4,010,200. There is definitely NOT a cost savings. When you factor in the total cost of ownership: car + insurance + maintenance + registration + storage + gas, etc. it costs more to own two cars than just a Z. A Prius is not a cheap ride either......

yeah but if you calculate the costs associated with driving two cars that cost $50k vs one car that costs the same amount, it's possible that you could save money with the two cars.
