The Merits Of The Panic Button

General question for you folks. How do you feel about the panic button on the key fob?

I have had panic buttons on the keyless entry systems on both the Z and my daily driver, and I have never pressed them once deliberately for legitimate purposes. I could break my own use of the button down into the following: (5% pranking people or messing with the dog, 95% accidental in the pocket).

So, I am curious, because I know that they don't just put those buttons on there for no good reason. Have you used it for legitimate purposes? Has it worked? Do you like it on there?

I won't shout down any opinions here. We're all owners/enthusiasts. I just want to gather the opinions of others.

Panic Button on the Z serves 1 purpose only.... Press it while people are standing next to your car admiring it.

i haven't used the buttons on my remote since may when i got my alarm installed. except sometimes i use it to lock the car if i turn it on and get out.

Even if you use it in a situation where you need help. How many times have you seen anyone come running to help when you/they hear a car alarm, most of the time it's like that A-hole needs to turn that noise off.

Reminds me of the story that years ago, potential rape victims were instructed to scream "fire" instead of "rape", because people respond more quickly to the threat of their possessions burning up.

so basically this thread is: "If you are getting raped, are you gonna press your panic button?"

I'm always setting the damn thing off on accident. Woke the whole family up one night when I fell asleep on the couch. The Z was in the garage singing at about 2 am.:tiphat:

Yeah that's exactly want i as thinking. So instead of the alarm sounds the car should scream "I'M ON FIRE AND BEING RAPED".:ugh2:

Sometimes I get so anxious, I feel panicky. So I press the button.

I thought that's what it was for.

What?

They should replace it with a button that opens the trunk/hatch.

well what if you're being raped at gunpoint? then i don't think saying 'FIRE!' is a good idea...

I certainly could not agree more with this statement, but that's just an opinion we share.

Come on, no one out there is a strong proponent of the panic button?
