Oh, it really doesn't make that much of a difference to me how the power is generated. The combustion engine was king of the hill for a very long time. If the next engine type rises above, then good for us. I don't even care what the motivation is behind the new tech, so long as it is better for the consumer. If cars are still fast, cool, fun, functional, practical, (all other reasons we buy cars), then that's all that really matters.

I remember reading an article on MSN once that said to have the biggest impact on helping the environment, we should focus on improving and maximizing the potential of the gasoline engine rather than having everyone switch to hybrids or EV's. This conclusion was from a study by some government agency. The report said that there was room for significant improvements in the efficiency of combustion engines. Making the complete switch to hybrids/EV's would require massive infrastructure upgrades that would be more costly and time consuming in addition to the other environmental impacts others have mentioned regarding battery manufacturing and shipping. Gasoline engines would just require some technical innovation, everything else is already in place.
I don't think the hybrid and EV movement is necessarily bad for the environment, but we need to put more focus on switching to clean and renewable sources of energy for electricity production to maximize the environmental benefits. I think it would be more beneficial to invest in renewable energy for electricity than to have everyone buy hybrids/EV's. |

No way in hell. I think the companies are pushing them way to hard and most are utter failures. If I want an econo bucket, fine, but if I want a sports car with a normal engine, than Ill take that. Their sales will slip if they make a hybrid sports car. Dont get me wrong if this middle east stuff turns into a full blown war and gas is over 5 bucks a gallon, id deff look into something that will get me longer MPG. Then again if we had a full blown war, i sure wouldnt worry about a new sports car either.

Except it will run out of battery power by the time it hits 60 mph, so the 300mph limit is theoretical.

Yeah, but the W16 runs ONLY on Unicorn Blood, so the chances of actually have any fuel for it is pretty slim.
