new to Z's help please
Hey everyone, I finally have money to buy or consider buying a Z.
Sadly has to be used though, so im looking into a 2009 370z 6peed Touring with NAVI. About close to 8,000 miles. I havent had any Z's or nissans b4 so i dont know the pricing for the car. They asked for 30k I live in nyc so we get snow here in the winters if this changes anything, Im wondering how much i could haggle down the price for, what would your recommendations on a good price i should settle for. I do plan on bringing cash with me to the dealer ship to help the price, but i dont know whats a rip off and whats a steal. Your input would be appreciated thanks:tup: |
1) It's not a good city driving car. Stop and go traffic in NYC in a 6 speed manual will test your patience.
2) You will need to put it in a garage all winter in NYC. Even with snow tires, it's a light RWD sports car. 3) 30k seems awfully high for that package. Even in pristine condition, I'd say 25 or maybe even 20 would be a fair price depending on what else the seller has done to it. 4) As always, before you even dream of making an offer, have your mechanic take a hard look at it. 5) The car is pure sex and it's by far the most fun I've ever had in a vehicle. |
Actually, I take that back. For NYC and adjacent zip codes, 30k seems to be about right although I see a few for 28kish.

Yeah that looks like a dealer resell price. Kelly blue book should give you a pretty good idea. It even lets you price out options etc.

30k is a little high imo. I'd say 26k is reasonable price. And Z is just pure awesome. No doubt one of the best sports car ever made. You'll be fine on the road as long as you have snow tires on. And yes, as the previous comment stated, have a professional check on the car. Lots of fraud out there these days

Since you aqre in the NYC area, talk to joe at Koeppel if you can. Guy seems to be able to work wonders with Z's.

I did some online searching for used Z's recently (just to see what cars like mine are going for), and found the typical range for a 2009 touring to be 26-32k within a 200 mile radius from NE PA (which would include the OP's area). I don't think any I looked at had the navi, but 30k seems like a good starting place for a negotiation down to 27 or 28k.
You don't need to garage the Z all winter (I've been able to drive mine once a week), but definitely recommend a second set of tires (I'm running Hankook Ventus all season performance right now, but even they can't handle a little snow or ice). A daily driver for bad weather is ideal. |
I don't know why everyone is knocking the price, that sound about right for Touring + Nav in your area. It's a good deal, and not a great one per se, but I don't think there is anything wrong with it if it is what you want.
Carmax offered me 29.7 for mine with 4k miles, so I don't think you'd be doing too bad on that buy, again presuming the T+S is what you want. You could get a used base or base + sport for that price though. Also, depending on what your winter driving plans are, you may want to look at something better suited for year round driving. |

As far as maintenance, it depends on what you are used to. I don't think the Z is that bad, but the EVO isn't much worse. I'd also take a look at the STI, or the WRX if maintenance is more of a concern. Not that you couldn't drive the Z year round, I just wouldn't want to, both from a safety and a car-care perspective. Subaru's warranty is pretty solid as well. |

Both companies are kind of hit-or-miss if you mod the car. In general, you can get away with minor stuff on both and still get stuff covered. On the Subaru, you'll see more of a gain outta small mods.
Throwing an AP and a catback actually adds significant power, vs similar mods on a Z. |
