Or if you're trying not to abuse your synchro's on a downshift. If you skip shift on an AP1 s2000, it's smarter to make sure everything is spinning the same speed before you go into gear. The 2nd and 3rd gear synchros go out with 20-30k miles of failing to rev match while skip shifting.


A lot of people overuse it, but it's actually a pretty common/useful thing to do.

I understand in that case, yes, but I am referring to the over-use of the term, not the actual intelligent use of the practice like you are talking about.

Just saying though, that if you're at 70mph, going into 3rd, you'd probably want to double clutch, so not necessarily a bad use. That's all.:tiphat:
