So how long will it be?

An earlier thread got me to wondering... So how long do you guys plan on keeping your 370. 1-5 years. Or forever. Until its paid for,or is it a stepping stone to a more expensive car.

I'll go first for me i love everything about the 370. well maybe a quieter cabin
would help. The only other car i would consider trading for would be a C6
corvette. which i probably will when i get around 40 to 45 thousand miles on the 370. but that's just my opinion.

kenchan 02-07-2011 07:50 PM

Im planning to keep mine for 6yrs and will get a 2nd hobby car, a convertible probably MINI in a few yrs.

Then im done with the car hobby all together and get one nice car benz or bimmer to use for everything. Will then spend most of my time on other hobbies. :)

SPOHN 02-07-2011 08:07 PM

I plan to keep this Z forever. I want to start a collection of cars that i build up. I'd like to do two more builds in my life to come. One day I want to go all out up front. Save up and drop mega bucks into at once with only the best parts. Then I'll defiantly die happy.

EazyD 02-07-2011 08:14 PM

Plan to keep it as long as I can. Spent 6 years trying to get a Z and it wasn't just to trade it in.

Nismoracer 02-07-2011 08:14 PM

Not long. 1 or 2 years maybe. I seem to go back and forth from sports car to 4x4. Had both at one time before and when that happens one of them usually end up just sitting there collecting dust. Ehey.... who knows.

onzedge 02-07-2011 08:17 PM

I will likely keep the 370 forever, just like my 240z, my 280zx's, my 84 F-150 and my wife's Echo. A GTR is next in a few years -- after the garage addition and possible divorce ;-).

xdeslitx 02-07-2011 08:19 PM

plan to keep it...i don't think i'd have it in me to get rid of a 40th

slammiam 02-07-2011 08:22 PM

Last foray into sports coupes (until something I want more comes out :D ), then it's onto sports sedans.

VaGntlmn 02-07-2011 08:32 PM

I'm 50 years old.
This is my 6th car, and my first NEW car.
Safe to say, I'm going to keep it a while!!!

gbrettin 02-07-2011 08:39 PM

The styling of the 370z has a certain appeal that the other Z's didn't bring to the table since the 240z. I was honestly considering a purchase of a 240z over the 350z until the 370 came out. For me, they hit the nail on the head with the build. It has the same sort of heritage that Porsche has with the 911s.

So, yeah... I'm keeping it until the engine blows up and then I'm putting a new engine in the car to keep going.

Mike 02-07-2011 08:48 PM

I have no idea. I buy new cars on whims quite often. Until my 350Z, I never kept a car more than a year and a half. I had the 350 for 3 years, the C6 for four and coming up on two years with the 370.

The 370 is paid for though, so I will probably add another car rather than replace it, unless I get something like a GT3 or Aston next. Have to see what the C7 looks like when it comes out.

optiontrader 02-07-2011 08:49 PM

Keeping forever. FI when the factory warranty runs out, and then handing it over to the son in eight years when he's ready to drive (don't worry, I'll return it to stock then or detune it A LOT).

Upgrade time then... 911 or GT-R (or comparable; who knows what will be available then). I figure the 911 is almost guaranteed to be still in the running in 2020...

theDreamer 02-07-2011 08:50 PM

The Z will probably be kept purely because it is my first 'sports car' and hopefully I can plan it out so I do not have to ever give it up.

b1adesofcha0s 02-07-2011 08:52 PM

Probably somewhere in the range of 3-5 years, then it's onto a supercar for me. GT-R/Lamborhini/Ferrari whichever one I like best at the time. :D

Red__Zed 02-07-2011 09:13 PM

Depends on how life goes. I'd like to hang onto it for a while, and move it to track duty.

370Z_Fan 02-07-2011 09:21 PM

I'll probably keep mine until the next generation Z roadster comes out, in about 4-5 years?

RockStarKick 02-07-2011 09:40 PM

When I was looking it was a Z, Camaro or Corvette. I ended up with the Z, and am very happy.. I am a very spur of the moment person and really can't say what will happen in the next year or 3.. I mean, I drove a new Civic Si off the lot when I was in for a damn oil change in my regular Civic...

zmyride 02-07-2011 10:32 PM

It will depend on how much I'll like the next generation Z, is it called 400Z?

If i like, it will surely sell my current 370Z and buy the 400Z.

If not, I'll still sell it and probably get either a fairly new Cayman S or used Carrera S for around $45K.

ImportConvert 02-07-2011 10:49 PM

Don't have a Nissan, but I will keep my current fun-car until another light, RWD, 6-speed, 2-seater car comes out, has been on the market for at least 2 years and proven reliable, and is under $85K. When all that criteria is met, I will sell and buy.

Dreezy562 02-07-2011 11:02 PM

Keep it till the wheels fall off. Maybe find out how a vette motor would fit in it

Super Red Z 02-07-2011 11:05 PM

I still keep mine for 4-5 years until next generation come out or GTR....IF I have kid....

I Love the 400z idea

sonic370 02-08-2011 07:27 AM

all good thoughts. i love my z but around 36 to 40 thousand miles i get new
car fever, just can't help it. i guess i just hate having to put good money back for upkeep that will never show a return. except for the thrill of driving the car of course.........

but as i said earlier it's either a Z or a Corvette for me............

PapoZalsa 02-08-2011 07:51 AM

Since is a Z I plan to keep it for a long time, unless something real wrong happens.

The car is little bit over a yr old and is half paid already. So I'm not looking for another car payment either after this one, just money for mods.

I had my last brand new car that I liked for 7 yrs. That is not counting the new one tht latest one month no even the first payment before I got the 350Z.

:iagree:

I'll be keeping mine for as long as possible

ProfessorDave 02-08-2011 10:53 AM

I plan on keeping it for awhile. But, I tend to get drawn to something new every 2-3 years so we'll see. Given my middle age status, I'm pretty sure the rules say I'm supposed to get a P-car next.

Blue370tt 02-08-2011 11:06 AM

I will probably keep mine for another year or so.......my other car is a FJ 4X4 and I use it for road trips. I like the 370 quite a bit and got rid of a 2006 C6 Z51 vette right before I got the Z.

Like many others, I will def look at the next Z when it comes out. I like supercars but think it costs to much to maintain a Lambo, Fer, Porsche, etc....so its unlikely I will get one.

EL Diablo 02-08-2011 11:21 AM

I usually buy a new car every 3-4 years...

If you are going make a monthly payment it might as well be something
worth it.

400Z does have a nice ring

flashburn 02-08-2011 11:33 AM

I haven't a clue yet. I've had the thought of getting a Boss 302 next year, and if I did that I might keep the Z, or depending on it's value trade it in for a Juke. If Nissan announces that the next Z is TT from the factory, that would completely change things, I'd probably trade in the 370 as soon as I could for it.

So, yeah, no clue, could be only a year, or it could be 10+.

Pushing_Tin 02-08-2011 12:15 PM

I had mine for 23 months, and I'll probably drive the Jag for about the same amount of time. No car payment FTW.

4r3s 02-08-2011 03:00 PM

the plan for now is to drive it till the wheels fall off.

partsguy 02-08-2011 03:03 PM

Mine's paid for, but I probably won't keep it long. I estimate at less than 2 years.

Not trying to derail the thread but a factory TT Z is not going to happen.....ever again......unless they stop making the GTR. A TT Z would be a threat to the GTR and Nissan is not going to let that happen.

Back when the TT 300z was out there was no US GTR......now there is....so that rationale wont work now.

actually, they could bump the gtr to 600hp ish next iteration of it

and put the Z car at a smaller engine TT to around 400. wouldnt be a threat.

Also despite the HP, there is alot more to the GTR that the z doesnt have.

Also with mileage/efficiency in mind, a smaller motor with TT would be ideal and alot of companies are going this route.

And yet they sold the 300ZX with the Skyline in Japan and other countries for years....hmmm.
Nissan could easily throw on a TT kit and put it at 400HP-450HP and put the GT-R at 600HP. Still completely different cars, RWD/AWD, Manual/Double clutch auto, 2 seat/2+2 seat, etc.

Will Nissan do it? Probably not since the green movement is winning right now and a V6TT while nice would go against that wonderful green movement the general population is into right now.

bleufiend 02-08-2011 08:36 PM

At least 4-5 years so long as something drastic doesnt change in my life.

BrianMSmith 02-11-2011 10:09 PM

I am a cheapskate, so I went crazy and bought my car new, and so I'll probably keep it for 10+ years, as a backup car at least - if I get bored with it. My boys will be driving by then, so I'll want extra cars around. I might add to the garage with something like a GTR, Z06, or Cayman in 5-7 years. So I do have more expensive car aspirations, but I also want a vacation home, so we'll see how well the stock market treats me - and how much the wife earns in her hobby career (paralegal). It's been quite a ride for the last few years, I bought the hell out of stocks after the crash in 08 (when most morons were selling) and doubled my money.

mick 02-11-2011 10:32 PM

it depends on what the new c7 will look like.
if it looks anything like the stingray concept, i think i am going to trade in my z. Sorry guys :)

SophiaZ 02-11-2011 11:15 PM

I plan on keeping my Z til it dies..but with all the crap going on in my life...if the judge don't approve of my soon-to-be ex-husband paying off my car, than I'll have to say goodbye soon :(

Cmike2780 02-11-2011 11:37 PM

I plan on keeping her for a while, but you never know what life throws at you.
