Mines a lifer, and considering I put very few miles on it she will last a long time. I plan on going TT with her in the future.

plan to keep mine for about 10 years - I can't really see myself trading in cars every 2 - 3 years. I typically buy the first year it comes out so that I can benefit from the new body style for as long as possible prior to the next redesign. I also look for cars that look a little bit "ahead of its time" that way in the later years that I own it, it still looks reasonably stylish.
I also have a second older car that is a daily driver which will help keep the miles down on the Z. |

Have you found yourself playing "guinea pig" any, or has your plan been perfect so far? I know 1 person is a very small sample size and more based on luck. Interesting to see your thoughts compared to mine. Makes the world go round! |

Coming from the tech world I have always been a beta tester or first gen buyer.
With cars it does not bother me to do the same, as it is actually longer for product cycles so buying in first gen actually is easier. Where with tech buying first gen can be obsolete within 1 month.

2003 MINI Cooper - many repairs under warranty, which increased after warranty was expired. Dumped it after less than 3 years (bought it used) 2004 RX-8 - some recall work and warranty repairs. Could not stand getting less than 10 MPGs around town and waiting to shut the car off to cool down the rotary. Sold it after 18 months. 2003 Mazda6 (wife's car) - 2 repairs in 9 years, both under warranty. And now the 2009 370. So far no issues other than a random misfire code a couple of times (and I think I have the hatch release issue). I'm a sucker for a new model!

professordave- for the hatch issue (is it not release in one try?) drop 2 or 3 pennies each in the 2 rubber shocks. that cured mine. forget the nissan tsb on this. problem comes back. penny trick FTW!

keeping mine. I will be picking up a Pathfinder next year to add to the CX7 and Z. They will be the daily drivers, Z will be my fun weekend car and eventually track car...
at least until 2045 when the oil is suppose to run out... |

Mine was paid for in full before I drove it off the lot. I plan on driving it for another year or so, then I'm most probably going back to German cars.
