feeler: time to let go
hi guys, Im in the process of moving to another car. it's time to let go my Z, wondering if you guys can help me determine how much my car is worth in the market.
Trying to get a feel for interest and value before seriously listing the car i bought it my pw 370z in Sep.09 with every option available (touring, sport, Nav) i have 10k+ mod on it, currently 12,500 miles. i have a minor accident on jan 2010, i rear ended an suv, wasnt too bad, no engine damage at all, just the bumper and hood. btw i have all stock parts mods list, HKS HI-POWER cat-back exhaust Berk HFC Injen CAI hotchkis Sway Bars Advan RS-D Tein Flex coilover SPC camber arm kit Hankook V12 20mm Spacer all around Evo-r CF mirror cover, bumper cover, rear diffuser CF aero jacket bodykit Front bumper clear bra roof and headlight vinyl GTM tow hook http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5135/...77bcef83_b.jpghttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4094/...653b6090_b.jpg http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5171/...b931c9a4_b.jpg I need help to determine how much it worth, i dun know if i should put it back to stock and trade in or sell it over the forum as the way it is. please give me some suggestions guys. thanks in advance. Yes parting out would get you more.
Why are you letting her go? |
thanks guys, just wondering how much the difference is gonna be, according to KBB my car is worth just bit under 30K without mods,(i paid 41k OTD for it) but the labor for take out all the mods is another expense. since this is my only car, im moving to bigger, auto, not two seater cars. havent decided yet. anyone has any idea how much it will worth if i sell it as the way it is

Rough estimates...
New - Part Out 1900 - 1000 HKS HI-POWER cat-back exhaust 500 - 300 Berk HFC 560 - 300 Injen CAI 360 - 200 hotchkis Sway Bars 3000 - 2200 Advan RS-D 1800 - 1200 Tein Flex coilover 180 - 100 SPC camber arm kit 800 - 400 Hankook V12 200 - 100 20mm Spacer all around 740 - 400 Evo-r CF mirror cover, bumper cover, rear diffuser 1550 - 800 CF aero jacket bodykit NA - NA Front bumper clear bra NA - NA roof and headlight vinyl 135 - 75 GTM tow hook 11,725.- spend... 7075.- to be recovered.... So at $30k selling price, you would have to sell it at $37k to make back the same amount as on part out. (very unlikely you'll be able to sell it at that price) This of course considers the fact that you can uninstall everything yourself, otherwise subtract that cost from the difference.. |

Like you see, a car is for no investment. The money spent in aftermarket parts will never be recovered unless you find the right perosn at the right moment. GLWS!

In a realistic conservative car buyer world, your car with the mods is still worth the KBB value. You're very unlikely to find a buyer who is going to swallow the cost of parts you've put into the car. Even finding a buyer who wants a modded Z is going to be a challenge. So your options are to sell as-is for KBB (and perhaps be able to stand more firmly with your price given the mods) or take the parts off, go back to stock and sell the car and parts separately.

I believe those mod figures are a bit on the high side. Many of them, such as the HFCs, camber kit, etc (ie, stuff "under the hood") will not add any value to the car.
The wheels, exhaust, things like that which are more "visible" to the buyer will help toward you directly recouping the value of those mods. It really is in your best interest to part the car out, even if you need to take the parts off yourself. IMO, the amount you spend in labor, if you intend to go that route, will still be less than you will recoup from the sale of those mods individually vs having them installed when you sell the car. last little note: people like the idea of buying a car that's "unmodified" a lot of the time. Seeing that the car has been tinkered with actually goes against your favor with the majority of buyers. beautiful car, btw :) |
