ice burnouts

I have an audi DD, but it's somewhat warm today and the roads are clear so I decided to take the Z to the store. I discovered that the Z is exceptionally good at burning holes in ice

I eventually did manage to slide out of the parking spot sideways. **** winter.

yeah happened to me as well... i was hoping to take it out today too, guess not

Red__Zed 02-05-2011 12:59 PM

That's prett much what it takes to get the z moving on ice.

This is why I live in Miami.

I got the car washed and the wheels waxed the day before the snow storm... I think I'll leave it as that until the snow melts. Besides, I would hate to operate the clutch in single digit weather. :)

Careful cause some tires blow when spun on ice and suddenly catch asphalt.

tonybui 02-05-2011 01:25 PM

Dude, that's not CLEAR at all !!

ProfessorDave 02-05-2011 01:36 PM

I managed to get the Z stuck on a 2 ft square patch of ice in a parking lot last week. I opted for rock salt vs. the burnout method. Gotta be careful of that sudden traction when you hit pavement!

Haven't driven the Z on ice or snow yet, but I did get these things from Target.

Those are cool. Might get a set to keep in the car. Seems like somebody always needs 'em. Whole lot better than cardboard.

Oh yeah. And snow tires FTW. :driving:

Those are nice. I need to go pick some up.

Snow tires definitely deserve a FTW. But you still want to carry some extra weight in the hatch and some traction-aid if you do get stuck. I have Dunlop Wintersport M3s on the 5.0 and had some issues with uphill climbs in around 4-5" of heavy wet snow. I could have used an extra 200lbs over the rear tires for sure.

I dont know what they are called, but you essentially put them in front of your rear tires. They fold up into a pretty small item. There are grooves for your tires to grip and the bottom is the same pattern, just reversed. I have not tried them on ice or snow, but I got them from the automotive/winter section in Target. Maybe next to hand warmers? I forget..

I drive mine every day and it has been in the snow and on wintry roads for most of it's life. The car drives fabulously, of course I do have snow tires on it but it's never even spun a tire once... unless I wanted it to.

Those traction things might work and their a convenient size but be careful with them. Anything under the tire can become a projectile, you shouldn't be spinning the tires anyway but just be aware.

EazyD 02-05-2011 08:35 PM

agreed, use your head at all times

370Z Purist 02-06-2011 07:15 AM

if you're not careful, you'll go sideways in the snow instead of in the direction you want. on the occasion I had to pull up a freshly snowed on driveway or pull out of one, I sometimes ended up far in my yard instead of on the street. pretty good at melting the snow on the ground, then I get traction.

I hate when I shoot for the street and end up in the yard!
