Car is 6 days old and already in the shop

Bought a 2009 Nissan 370z (it was New with 20 miles), on saturday.

Well last night I get in the car to go home from work, and what do you know, it wont start. The little key light came on the dashboard, and well yea had to get it towed.

Its been at Miller Nissan in Fairfield, CT since last night, and I must say they are pretty horrible as far as customer service is concerened. They told me the car would be diagnosed by 12pm, and to call them then. Well everytime I call they just put me through to voicemail.... Its now almost 5 and have not heard a thing from them.

We'll see....

m4a1mustang 02-04-2011 03:44 PM

Ouch! That really sucks, man. This key issue is actually becoming quite common. We've had a handful pop up in the last few weeks.

Sibze 02-04-2011 03:44 PM

Take it back!

PapoZalsa 02-04-2011 03:46 PM

I would go straight to the dealer if I could!

dad 02-04-2011 03:46 PM

A 2009(?), with only 20 miles?

Yea, it was never sold... still at the original dealer the manufacturer shipped it to and everything.

My original factory waranty started the day I bought it (on saturday 1/29)

:tiphat:

kenchan 02-04-2011 03:49 PM

so im guessing it is either a weak battery or IPDM issue.

I've been through 4 Nissan dealers in my area. The 4th is an absolute gem while the first 3 were terrible. Good ones are out there...just keep looking.

Why take it back? He probably got a great deal. This is a minor, stupid issue that they'll take care of. Then it will be a fabulous car. My wife just got a Mazda CX-7 and it had an oil leak on the 3rd day of ownership. Three annoying days in the shop later, we had it back and it's great now. Sometimes there are little bumps...but they can be smoothed and won't be an issue down the road.

kenchan 02-04-2011 03:55 PM

No clue, the guy told me the battery was completley dead, and I also had a blown fuse.

I tried jumping the car and It wouldnt work, so I dont know what the deal is specifically.

And yet little old 'faux' USA up here didn't have over 100 major banks go out of business last year.... :stirthepot:

As for the car I would be pretty frustrated if that happened. You must be dying to hop in, get to know the car better and take it for a spin....

the first night i brought my Z home i charged the battery. at 2amps it took over 18hrs...so the battery was pretty weak even after the initial 20mile drive. in contrast, typically my battery manager will float within 3-4min if battery is fully charged after a drive.

Huh? A "handful in the last few weeks" does not equal "quite common"...

well looks like I did not have the same problem as other forum members have been experiencing.

I only had a bad battery, as opposed to steering lock sensor malfunction.

kenchan 02-04-2011 08:24 PM

You may have also burnt the lamp fuse or relay when you jumped. Was the headlight in the on or auto positon? That may have done it. I shut off all accessories when jumping the car....including even dome lights.

Dont remember off hand, i was too busy crying...

although when i started it tonight, it was only the main part of the headlights that wouldnt turn on, the side daytime lights turned on, so i dont know..

Bill Kay in Downer's Grove. They replaced my ECU due to the high pitch whining sound. No questions, no arguements...just a quick listen, 'yep', and then I had it swapped within a week. For both visits, they said "when would you like to come in?" and gave me the exact time I wanted.

The other Chicagoland dealerships wanted me to leave my car for diagnosis, pay for my own rental, and claimed they were too busy to accommodate most times I requested.

Since he was able to start the car I don't think it was the IPDM. He probably blew the fuse to the ballast or relay.
