Hi all,

under the dashboard, just above my knees, I have a sort of switch screwed and I could not find what it is. I tried to turn the button, press on it, nothing happens. FYI, I bought my Z used.

Thanks. Here are some pics of this "switch".

tonybui 02-04-2011 12:20 PM

OMG its nitrous !

jpritche 02-04-2011 12:22 PM

It's a camera. Useful when girls in short skirts try to "drive" your car. Be thankful for it ;)

NISSNISS370Z 02-04-2011 12:30 PM

you bought it used, im surprised they didnt remove it before selling you the car. follow the wires to see where they end up at. obviously you bought it from a dealership or else you would of asked the private seller. still surprised the dealership did not take it off

Sibze 02-04-2011 12:31 PM

Have you followed the wires?

GZ3 02-04-2011 12:35 PM

LOL what happens when you press it??

:icon14: Maybe push it rather than trying to turn it? :icon14:

kenchan 02-04-2011 12:36 PM

looks like a poorly installed trunk release sw or something? :icon17:

No, I tried everything and nothing is happening. No light, no secret door opened, no "Z" genius appearing, nothing :)

I though about an alarm system or XM box, but it would be documented if it would be XM related. Maybe a sort of "LoJack" tracer ?

I did not look yet where the wires are going, this will be the next step !

PapoZalsa 02-04-2011 01:06 PM

Not a freaking clue!

Any other mods done to the car that you know of? Fog Lamp, non-homelink mirror (garage door opener), VSS bypass (enter NAV in motion)....

No, except a clear bra :)
The mirror is the factory one (touring package) with homelink, there is no fog lamp, and I dont know about VSS bypass (I wish this "switch" is for this purpose !!)

toner123 02-04-2011 04:54 PM

Nitrous is what that looks like to me lol

Like others said trace the wires

Then the only logical conclusion is that the switch is to engage the hyperdrive...

warp speed ahead!

It turns on the tracking device so the previous owner can find the car, steal it back and sell it again. A repeating cycle.

Or he just had something installed that required a push button, but went back to stock to sell the car.

daisuke149 02-04-2011 05:40 PM

if that is for nitrous i'd find out asap and perhaps take the car back. not something i would want on my car if i was purchasing one used.

Red__Zed 02-04-2011 06:00 PM

Now I'm curious...hurry and trace the wires!

Lemers 02-04-2011 06:04 PM

It's the "onstar" button. What nobody else has one?

Xan 02-04-2011 06:37 PM

Have you tried holding it for 15 seconds while the car is running or with just the ignition on?

sonic370 02-04-2011 06:39 PM

is that some kind of LED light. sorry but whatever it is,it looks halfxss at best.

No LED or any kind of light. It really seems to be a non-illuminated switch.

toner123 02-04-2011 07:17 PM

hey if you push the button in does it stay in. push again and it comes out?
Kind of like a clicke pen

It must be an insurance discount device ... It zaps you in the balls if you go over the speed limit or launch too fast

Ron 02-04-2011 07:51 PM

Waiz 02-05-2011 12:10 AM

I'm sure somewhere someones garage door keeps opening everytime OP presses that button :icon17:

Either that or it was an old LED kit button

EazyD 02-05-2011 12:21 AM

It gives me rep on every push

A.k.a., subscribing to this.

The reason I asked for how the button worked is because it could have been hooked up to a lazer jammer and that was the on and off button. Chances of a cop looking down there for a switch to turn it on and off are slim.
