Hmmmmm...wonder whether this isn't part of a dealer installed KARR Security System?

And if I were to put in a switch that turned of such features I would make sure it would only work if you meant it to, by holding it longer. |

Very true... But he didn't try holding down the button yet... Maybe the car would have exploded...

This is what the button does can't believe we all missed it. |
I've seen those before, but never in a car. It's clearly a "retard occupier." How many times have you pushed it so far?
|
When he hits 88 mph he pushes it to start the flux capacitor.:icon17:

Anyway, I'll try to find some time this week end to look at the wire. So funny that so many are interested in this switch :icon18: |
This switch is EPIC! So until you ring out the wires, I'm going to make a few guesses:
|
You need a female in the passenger seat for it to work. It a nag mute button.
|
Rocket launcher. Dealers and private sellers are not allowed to sell a vehicle with armed weapons. Go to your local weapons sale hosted by spies from former Soviet countries. Install rockets where useless grille covers next to fangs are.
Oh yes, ignition must be "on". This option won't work in "Accessory" mode, although I believe someone has a fix for that over in the DIY section. |
Ok I got another one... are you sure your car wasn't in Spy Hunter?

Stealth Mode Button. Who needs radar detectors? Not this guy just one click of the button and he's invisible to radar guns.
|

Ok some updates, unfortunately I still dont know what was installed in my car.
The switch is connected to a major set of wire, wrapped in black duct tape. On one side (in direction of the central console) there is a BIG connector : the device that this switch is supposed to control was probably plugged in it ! then from this connector a set of wire is going behind the central console.. is it going to the ECU ? I don't know. On the other side (in direction of the steering wheel and the fuse box), the switch is connected to a relay, which is connected to the fuse box and also the clutch switch. I tried immediately to start the car without pushing the clutch but pressing the switch, failed, the switch has no effect on the clutch . Some pictures to show you the different parts. Any idea (realistic please :) ) ? What kind of device can be plugged and needs to interact with the clutch sensor ? |
Are there any numbers or manufacturing names on anything, post them if so I'll google them to see what I can find.
Frank |
No I did not find any number. Could it be a remote engine starter ? Or an aftermarket alarm with start engine feature ?
|
Can u ask the dealer to ask the previous owner?? Also do u guys know what the white connector underneath the steering wheel is for? (Firts picture, right behind the mystery switch)
|
Ron, this is the OBD2 connector
|
Cool, so there is where its at! Thanks

I know I asked but post any info that would enable us to google it. Thank Frank |
Do you have the original Monroney window sticker? If so, call the dealer listed on the sticker, tell them your VIN, and then ask whether they installed this? Most likely they did as an up-charge item to the original seller. Ask what this alarm consist of? If it is a KARR system then I believe that this button has something to do with valeting.

Do you know how to install a Clifford alarm or Viper with remote start feature ? I am quite sure that this is what was installed in my car...

Do you have auto-dimming mirrors? Also, is it a base or touring? |

Why don't you go to your local Nissan dealers' Service Department; have them input your VIN; this will tell you the original dealer so that you contact them, or the they might know what this is. |
Its there to **** with your head.
Now that you brought it to the forums, its ******* with everyone's heads! |
If I guess what it is,I want a prize Damn it!!!!:ugh2:
|
i have no clue sorry cant help. but did anyone say to themselves thats a very awkward position for that button? haha
|
titan starter has a button that is used with there text to start add on. could it be thaT?
|
It's part of the GPS tracker/remote ignition kill installed by the dealer. It's to help the dealer recover the car after it's been stolen off the lot. Most people have no idea it was even installed.
Another use for this system is to make it easier to repo your car: BHPH Vehicle Recovery: GPS Tracking vs Ignition Interrupt Devices | Buy Here 'N Pay Here |

Your last picture is most certainly a relay being used as a starter kill. If that switch went to this then what you may have is a aftermarket version of the key fob that we have on the Z from the factory.
If you had a car that just had a normal ignition key you could add this and if you didn't have the coded fob on your keychain the car wouldn't start. I used to do car audio/security installs for a living. In my opinion this is what we used to call "hacked in". Go to a good audio/alarm shop and have it removed. Disclaimer: I could be wrong about what it is but I still think it should be removed as soon as possible. Whatever it is it's not installed well. |
