Well I haver that covered. When my wife tires of her 2010 Maxima she can sell it and buy my 2011 370Z. Then I can go new car shopping.

Wow, really low numbers. I wonder how other sports cars in the same segment have done.

Weird, but I kind of feel glad there aren't so many. At the same time, I hope Nissan sells enough to develop a successor and keep the legacy going.

All those numbers came from posts made by dad***, I just consolidated so dad will have to confirm, but I THINK those are world wide production numbers. I could be totally wrong, but I think at the very least it's U.S. numbers.

***Note: I started this tally about 6 months ago so dad may not be the only source, I forget. But I got all the information from this forum from other threads. It was just a matter of putting it all in an Excel spreadsheet.

One thing I think these numbers should do is quiet down any terds here bitching about why hasn't Nissan made major cosmetic or performance changes YET, only after 3 years. I mean what are people thinking really. 10,000 cars a year for a company as large as Nissan is not something you change everytime the wind blows.

Now oil coolers and brakes are another topic, a topic there are already 17,000 threads about. So don't go there here please.

Those 2011 numbers are incredible.

The 370Z was approved on the assumption of 30k units sold in the first year. We haven't even seen that almost three years in.

I know there is always a lot of talk about the "next generation" Z, but with sales numbers like that you have to wonder if Nissan can make the numbers work, and if the Z brand is worth it to them to keep going in its current state. I tend to think if they do keep the Z they will try to reinvent it as an eco-friendly sports car... an electric or hybrid sports car that everyone can afford.

In any case the 370 will definitely go down as one of those rare cars. 350s are all over the place because they managed to sell a bunch of them each year from '03-'08 (or '09 for the roadster), but the 370 will never really saturate the road like the 350 did.

Yeah it has its plusses and minuses for sure. Assume the Z is canceled after 2013... it will maintain a pretty good resale value.

Which is kind of annoying to me because I want to buy a used Roadster.

My post from before:

Quote:
Whatever they manufacture. Nissan doesn't produce as many 370Zs intentionally now. Their sales goals are low by default, unlike the 350Z which was highly incentivized and also was a car that returned after a very long 6 year hiatus.
The 370Z simply has different goals set by Nissan. It is a quasi-halo car for the brand now. But it is so inexpensive to manufacture simply due to the amount of parts it shares with the Infinitis and various other Nissans (from the transmission, engine, mounts, suspension components, battery, steering, pumps, interior pieces, headlight bulb and ballast, radio, navigation, user interface, brakes, this list can go on for a while).

Also its lack of practicality hurts it against the Mustang and Camaro, which has always been the case historically - starting from the late 70s. But a lot of it comes down to the fact that Nissan simply makes fewer of them intentionally, as well. The market was saturated with 350Zs, and that really, really destroyed the car's resale value and began to slightly hurt its image.
