He used an iPhone, not sure it has a macro mode. Just move the camera further away until it is clear text in focus.

I've held the Z at the topside of second gear through the last two miles of curves, and the oil temp has risen to 40 degrees past the safe zone. NISMO will be offering an optional oil cooler for this car, but the bean counters should have allowed them as standard equipment; [the engine]'s cooking much too quickly."

(The author says earlier in the article that he was shifting from second to third gear and back throughout the drive)

Hope this helps in our quest to get what we deserve from Nissan...
I'll be on the Dragon and then the Skyway this Saturday and it's looking like a warm day so I'll be watching my oil temps...as I mentioned in another thread I autocrossed my 370 last Sunday with no issues but apart from being a cool day, I'm not sure a 60 course would pose a problem anyway.

As the author noted above, I usually spend my time on the Dragon shifting from 2nd to 3rd and back to 2nd over and over again so...we'll see and I'll report back after my runs.

Hey everyone,

Matt here from 0-60 magazine.

First off, for those having trouble finding the mag. Subscribers would have received their copies by now, but most newsstands would only be getting issues this week and next. There's a good chance that they'll be out on Tuesday if they're not already displayed. Guess the lesson here is that it pays to subscribe! Also, if you can't find it in Barnes and Noble or Borders, try your local supermarket.

In regards to the 370Z running hot at the Dragon, there's something you should know first about the staff here at 0-60: We beat the snot out of every car we come in contact with. The concept of "mechanical mercy " is foreign to us. When we put the Z through the paces at the Dragon, believe me when I say it was being pushed beyond the point the average consumer would be doing on a regular basis. We feel that you should all be aware that one of our other staffers went to the launch of the car in Las Vegas a few months ago and sampled versions of the Z that were equipped with the NISMO oil cooler. They ran flawlessly the entire time on track and didn't go into limp mode. That said, we would suggest that anyone who plans on driving hard, should opt for the oil cooler (and that goes for most cars, not just the Z).

To the gentleman who said he emailed us asking for a PDF of the story: We never actually received your email, but if you'd like to contact us at any time in the future (this goes for any and everyone) please feel free to drop us a line at tips@0-60mag.com and we'll do our best to help you out—except sending you a PDF of a story that just dropped. Our publishers wouldn't be too pleased with us then.

So yeah, if you have any questions for us, drop us a line!

Oh and if you want to subscribe, here's our shameless plug : https://secure.harris-pub.com/0-60ma...cribe/form.php

Hello, Matt...thanks for the post!

I've read you publication many times...I'm not currently a subscriber but I buy it often.

I do have a question if you happen back through this thread...as someone who spends a good bit of time on the Dragon I can't help but wonder how you can push any car overly hard and keep staff employed since I would suspect that most of them would be carted off in wearing some steel jewelery considering the THP cars waiting every 30 feet.

Thanks for the input.

So I subscribed. Can I get the issue we have been discussing as my first issue? It's worth $12 to have it filed away with the rest.

I think you are absolutely correct on adding the oil cooler on any car doing much track time.

Thanks,

Robert,

On my last run at the Dragon in my 335i I did not see any local law enforcement. It was mid week though.

Hi Matt,

That's the problem. There is no factory oil cooler option, not even Nismo available from Nissan. We really don't have a problem paying for it but we do feel slighted when the press cars had them and we can't get them!

There are other aftermarket coolers of course, but I would like to have some chance of keeping my warranty and still run a few track days.

I'll be on the look out for the mag.

Well, the last couple years I believe the state received extra Fed money which they used to "police" the Dragon...I've seen as many as 13 THP cars on one run but that was during the "season"...it is much different early or late in the season.

Of course, you don't have to drive like a bat out of hell to enjoy the Dragon and frankly, a lot of people who do try it that way probably shouldn't if you know what I mean!

I'm curious about what I run into tomorrow (Saturday) since we are now in April and it's supposed to be warm and sunny...we'll see!!!

The resolution to the issue will most likely not be through the enthusiast but rather through the daily driver, like my wife, who is not a track/sports oriented enthusiast. As it stands (and even Matt has diplomatically done a CYA) the blanket caveat of driving it hard will be Nissan's default to the why you are having the issue. However, as I stated, when the daily commuter starts having this issue then Nissan can no longer default to the rote disclaimer.

Now, if owners contact Nissan stating they are simply driving the 370Z obeying traffic laws, and daily driving...

That's because of how the jurisdiction is handled between Tennessee and North Carolina. Neither one likes to deal with it, and if you go off the road they will airlift you out, but only after they find you as mobile reception is a bit lacking.

Jurisdiction really isn't an issue as 95% of the Dragon is in Tennessee and trust me, the last few years the THP has been there in force!
