Scoot up! I'm 5'-11" and the dead pedal sits perfectly.
You should have your knees bent to operate the pedals, so when you rest your left leg, it falls naturally on the DP. Someone on this board posted that when your seat position properly adjusted, if you extend your arms out in front, your wrists should lay on top of the steering wheel. I was a tad too far; after adjusting it this way, once I got used to it, it works better (if you heel-n-toe as well).

No, I haven't resolved the height (by height I mean distance from the floor) issue, but still haven't adapted to it. I still find myself hovering my foot over the dead pedal. But, I'm a slow learner If I didn't like the touring pedals I'd probably look for a set of aftermarkets that came with a dead pedal and then worked on it to change the height (I bought a set from Autovation for my Mazda...no idea if they make them for the Z). Let us know if you come up with a fix!

To address the original question, the dead pedal is attached to the carpet, not the floor. It should be fairly easy remove the dead pedal and to install a fabricated wooden spacer block (pick a dimension that suits your needs) between the dead pedal and the floor of the footwell.

First of all you are driving an auto so I'll write slow. Either place your foot flat on the floor. I do this when I drive auto to avoid trying to put in the clutch, only to find the extra wide brake pedal. Or extend the dead pedal with a 2" x 6" board cut to fit your needs.
