Gun Metallic Nismo

Spotted this beast on a site today and haven't seen one posted on the forum yet....

Posted photos of both GM and PG to compare.

What are your thoughts on the Gun Metallic vs the Platinum Graphite?

Will the new color devalue the Platinum Graphites?

370zFORme!! 01-29-2011 11:45 AM

Is it just me or is the bumper a way different shade of grey than the hood?

Skeeterbop 01-29-2011 11:46 AM

I doubt it will devalue PG. In my opinion it all depends on the buyer. Some will prefer the PG and others GM. It will also depend on how many of each were/are produced. The rarer of the two will most likely get valued slightly higher. In the near term though i don't expect to see any change.

JJ-NISMO 01-29-2011 11:48 AM

Looks the same to me :/ You mean on the GM or the PG car?

Any aero parts will have a slightly different shade than body panels.

mark_taba85 01-29-2011 11:50 AM

I liked the PG since it was close to Gun metal and it is easy to maintain and sexy. But with GM out, I am all in for the GM!

the PG looks like a mix between GM and the Grey.

JJ-NISMO 01-29-2011 11:54 AM

Ya, the Gun looks like what would happen if the PG and the 40th had a love child....

Huh?

NewYorkJon34 01-29-2011 11:58 AM

I think it looks nasty, def liking the new color

ThoriumHotdog 01-29-2011 12:00 PM

Do want.

SPOHN 01-29-2011 12:04 PM

I have a GM and love it over the PG. Almost wish it was darker. But it's very nice.

JJ-NISMO 01-29-2011 12:06 PM

I want to go Chuck Norris on Nissan's ***.... Three silvers seems crazy.

I am just going to spray paint may car with primer.

djpathfinder 01-29-2011 12:16 PM

Go gun metallic.

toxik 01-29-2011 12:17 PM

I like GM, but for some reason a GM GTR looks a lot different in photos than a GM 370z, even the nismo. The darker the grey/silver, the better as far as i'm concerned.

What are your thoughts on the Gun Metallic vs the Platinum Graphite?

I prefer the PG. GM is not bad at all.

steveg78 01-29-2011 12:23 PM

I'd have to see this color in person. I don't see much diff between the two but it appears GM has a less metallic appearance to it and more of a solid hue. It's nice, but I like how in the right lighting PG accentuates the lines of the 370z.

And I'm not just saying that because I own a PG :)

Jjaden 01-29-2011 12:29 PM

That looks like the identical shade what Porsche used as 'Gun Metal' for their 2008/911 Turbo.

Amazing colour, never shows any swirls or scratches and looks incredible, if this was available when I bought my 370z I would have got it instead of Black.

Dreezy562 01-29-2011 02:39 PM

what are your thoughts on the GM and 40thQ ...

djpathfinder 01-29-2011 02:54 PM

I much prefer the 40th quartz (call me biased). Because it was a special anniversary color I'm glad gun metallic is different. However, if I can't get the 40th quartz, I would choose gun metallic. I didn't like how the 35th Anniversary Z had special wheels, and then the following year, those same wheels were standard on all Touring models.

I agree, darker silvers/greys look good. 5 years ago when I bought my FX45, the darker silver choice was diamond graphite, which was very close to platinum graphite. Since the late 1990's light silvers have become very popular so the darker diamond graphite was a fresh change at the time...just like gun metallic is also a nice change.

My 40th quartz is hard to keep clean though...almost as hard as black.

Dreezy562 01-29-2011 04:07 PM

i havent seen them side by side but 40th q is way beter.. im biased too hahhaha

Mine is on order and according to my dealer should be here by end of Feb. Will definitely post pics once I get it.

IMO 40th>GM>PG
I like the tint of purple over the tint of blue.
But...If they had GM when I got the 40th, I probably would have gotten a GM nismo. Im not a fan of the PG, its just too silver. Sorry, I don't mean to offend PG owners.

Jordo! 02-10-2011 05:43 AM

Meh.

As with all things, there are many shades of gray.

FWIW, I like the 40th variant on the color gray best.

Doesnt it kinda anger you a bit that they are using a similar color to the 40th quartz? As a fellow 40th owner the colors are very similar to me and I feel like its a bit of a slap in the face to a color out like this...i dont mean to sound snobby at all, its just out of all the colors they could have provided they use one that is close to the special 40th quarts, why not do a dark blue or something

...or orange, or green, or some other vibrant colour. Why another silver/grey based colour??? Who knows. Plus, I tought that black rose (black cherry) was supposed to be a one year special colour? I guess not. Nissan's done that before...when the 35th Anniv came out, it came with different 5 spoke wheels. The following years, that wheel design was standard.

christian370z 02-10-2011 10:15 AM

I personally like GM better than PG although I love PG, hence why I bought a PG Z. Gun metallic has a much colder metallic hue which I think looks sharper in certain lights in contrast to the warmer bronze like metallic hues that PG can take on in direct light.

saber 02-10-2011 02:39 PM

they should have started with GM in the first place, and stop trying to develop different shades of gray. white, silver, PG, GM, 40th Q, black, WTF????

then it's red, black cherry, and blue making up the balance? 2/3rds of the Zs are monochrome! haha

CrownR426 02-10-2011 02:49 PM

I don't think it matters at all lol...
When it comes down to it we all drive the same 370z.

ZOLE 02-13-2011 05:57 PM

I would have to see the two side by side in the same photo. Judging just by those pictures alone is difficult. For instance, the shot of my PG below looks closer to the GM shown in the OP's pictures than the OP's PG pic.

For 2011, at least in Canada they dropped the PG ( or Carbon Silver as called in CAN) and replaced it with the GM.

The GM is a current production colour by Nissan used for the G37 and GTR.

I am a big fan of the GM and think that is a good colour to keep in the pallete. It is just more different than the brillant silver which was to close the PG ( IMO).

GM for sure, but your right, does Nissan know anything besides grey? Id like to see a bit more of the color spectrum myself, maybe some brighter colors or a diff shade of blue.

I would recommend retiring the graphite next year (that's the middle one, right?). Too many grays. So then you'd have light gray and dark gray. And of course silver.

I would like to see a midnight blue and something like a metallic tan.
